"Some Directorate leaders wanted the entire program destroyed," Eirenne explained. "Others believed it was necessary if Humans were going to survive."
Aurelian looked over the old records again. "What did Sanctuary Ardent decide?"
"It kept the matrix, sealed the most dangerous research, and limited treatment authority to the emergency steward and senior medical staff."
Vaela's image remained on the channel, her attention fixed on Aurelian. "So now you control it."
"Not by myself," he said. "The system still requires approval from doctors and consent from the patient."
"Those limits can be changed."
"Then we make sure no one changes them."
Aurelian turned toward Eirenne before giving the order.
"Create a permanent rule for the matrix. No inherited-pattern treatment can begin without approval from the patient, two independent doctors, the sanctuary's civil representative, and the commander responsible for the facility."
Eirenne checked the request against the old rules.
