This couldn't continue like this.
Sabrina realized it as well.
She clenched her teeth and made her decision.
Powerful Psychic energy surged from her body and poured directly into Kadabra. With Sabrina's Psychic amplification, Kadabra's aura skyrocketed at a pace visible to the naked eye.
Ding.
Rival Pokémon Kadabra's strength is rising. Current level: Gym Entry-level.
Sam finally couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Miss Sabrina, isn't this going a little too far?!"
At this point, what was there left to fight?
He might as well just admit defeat.
Sabrina's expression didn't change in the slightest. She merely hummed calmly.
"I didn't break any rules. One-on-one. One Pokémon. Which rule did I violate?"
Her composed confidence made Sam grind his teeth.
Seeing his irritated expression, Sabrina felt secretly satisfied.
She hadn't forgotten how, back in the forest, Sam had turned around and run without hesitation when she asked for help.
Women were very vindictive.
The favor had been repaid. Now, it was time to vent her frustration.
Another Psybeam shot out—far stronger than before.
Ivysaur fired Bullet Seed with all its strength, but this time it failed to stop the attack.
The Psychic beam slammed into Ivysaur's body, pain surging through it so violently that it nearly let out a cry.
With Kadabra's strength pushed to a higher tier, Sam's plan of wearing it down through endurance was completely shattered.
He had no choice but to change strategies.
There was only one move left.
"Ivysaur, Sleeping Powder—then Razor Leaf."
At Sam's mental command, clouds of pale powder burst from the red stamens on Ivysaur's back, rapidly spreading across the battlefield.
"This is useless," Sabrina said calmly—the first time she'd spoken since the match began.
"Psychic Pokémon aren't affected by this kind of trick."
She wasn't wrong.
Every wisp of Sleeping Powder drifting toward Kadabra was blocked by a Psychic barrier formed from Confusion.
Sam already knew that Sleeping Powder alone wouldn't work.
That was why he had ordered Razor Leaf.
The swirling green blades tore through the air, slashing straight toward Kadabra.
"You're trying to force Kadabra to drop its Psychic barrier while dealing with Razor Leaf," Sabrina analyzed calmly.
"Once the barrier falls, the Sleeping Powder can take effect."
"Yes," Sam admitted openly.
Even if she saw through it, it didn't matter.
"Hmph. Naive."
"Then I'll just defeat Ivysaur before the powder takes effect."
"Kadabra, maximum Psybeam."
As the future hope of the Kanto Pokémon League, Sabrina was far from simple.
Even without relying solely on Psychic amplification, she was still an exceptional Trainer.
The terrifying Psychic energy exploded outward.
Every incoming Razor Leaf was crushed midair, shattered by raw power.
The reinforced Psybeam struck Ivysaur directly, its spoon glowing with overwhelming force.
Sam sighed softly.
There was nothing else he could do now.
All he could do was believe.
Believe that Ivysaur could endure.
But endurance had its limits.
The pressure kept increasing, and Ivysaur's body began to tremble.
Just as Sam was preparing himself for defeat—
Something unexpected happened.
The Miracle Seed embedded within Ivysaur's stamen suddenly pulsed with light.
Streams of pure energy flowed into Ivysaur's body.
With the Miracle Seed's support, Ivysaur stabilized and continued to resist.
Sabrina's eyes narrowed.
She hadn't expected this.
Because Kadabra failed to secure victory quickly, its condition deteriorated rapidly. Even Sam could sense the weakening power of Psybeam.
Floating in midair, Kadabra's eyelids twitched.
The Sleeping Powder finally took effect.
Damn it!
Sabrina felt a surge of regret.
She had been too conservative.
She should have pushed Kadabra straight to mid Gym-level from the start.
Now it was too late.
No matter how powerful Psychic was, it couldn't erase the effects of sleep.
Thud.
The moment Kadabra fell from the air and hit the ground, the battle was decided.
"You win."
Sabrina's expression was clearly unpleasant.
She had intended to teach Sam a lesson—but even after "cheating," she still lost.
Naturally, she wasn't in a good mood.
In contrast, Sam felt fantastic.
Not only had he won—
Ivysaur was about to evolve.
What outcome could possibly be better than this?
As the Miracle Seed delivered the last of its energy, Ivysaur's body began to glow.
Brilliant white light flooded the Saffron Gym, and Ivysaur's form expanded within it.
When the light faded—
A massive, majestic Pokémon stood proudly on the battlefield.
"Please take care of me from now on, Venusaur."
Sam smiled as he spoke.
The battle had ended.
And a new chapter had begun.
