Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: After Evolution

Charmander suddenly stopped moving on top of the dining table.

In the next instant, a dazzling white light burst from its body.

…Was it evolving?

Sam hadn't expected this at all. He had planned for Charmander to complete its evolution during a battle, not right here—on a dining table.

"Get down, Charmander—no, Charmeleon now," Sam said with a smile.

However, after evolving, Charmeleon didn't obey.

Instead of getting down, it continued eating the food on the table as if nothing had happened.

The smile on Sam's face froze.

His expression turned cold.

Ash, Brock, and Misty, who were sitting at the same table, instantly sensed that something was wrong. None of them dared to speak as they silently watched.

Sam frowned deeply.

He hadn't expected the same situation that happened to Ash to happen to him as well.

After evolving and suddenly gaining power, Charmeleon had become confused about its own position.

Sam smiled again—but this time, the smile was chilling.

"I'll say it one last time," Sam said coldly.

"Get down from the table. Now."

The icy tone in his voice made Ash and the others instinctively tense up. This was the first time they had ever seen Sam this angry.

Charmeleon finally turned around and looked at Sam.

The moment their eyes met, Charmeleon's heart trembled.

It wanted to say something.

Sam didn't give it the chance.

"Gengar."

"Kou jie… kou jie…"

Gengar appeared silently behind Sam.

It looked at Charmeleon with curiosity, clearly confused. Even it and Tyranitar obediently followed Sam's orders—who gave Charmeleon the courage to challenge him?

"Kou jie jie…"

The moment Gengar locked onto it, Charmeleon instantly snapped back to its senses.

Only then did it realize how foolish its behavior had been.

Charmeleon hurriedly climbed down from the table and stood behind Sam, head lowered, no longer displaying any trace of its earlier arrogance.

Sam didn't even look at it.

He recalled Charmeleon into its Poké Ball.

Everyone had to pay for their choices.

Charmeleon was no exception.

What awaited it next was hellish training.

---

"Sam… your Charmander wasn't caught in the wild, was it?"

Brock asked carefully.

Sam had already regained his composure. He smiled, nodded, and said calmly,

"No. It was abandoned."

Brock suddenly understood.

"So that's why…"

"How could you tell, Brock?" Sam asked curiously.

Brock took a sip of water and explained slowly,

"Pokémon caught normally by Trainers rarely rebel after evolving. This usually only happens with Pokémon that were abandoned and then taken in again."

"Maybe because of the trauma of being abandoned, once they suddenly gain power through evolution, their personality changes drastically."

Seeing Brock's cautious expression, Sam understood what he was really worried about.

As expected—Brock was always gentle.

"Don't worry," Sam said.

"I won't blame Charmeleon."

Brock smiled and scratched his head, relieved.

---

Back in the suite, Sam left all the other Pokémon outside the bedroom and brought only Charmeleon inside.

"Clefairy…"

Clefairy wanted to say something, but Ivysaur stopped her.

"Vysa… saur."

Everyone had to take responsibility for their actions.

Charmeleon would be punished.

There was a hint of concern on Tyranitar's usually cold face. To be honest, it liked Charmeleon—but as Ivysaur said, mistakes had consequences.

Hopefully it holds on, Tyranitar sighed inwardly.

"Kou jie jie."

Unlike the others, Gengar looked positively delighted.

It hadn't known Charmeleon for long and had no emotional attachment, so it was fully in spectator mode, ready to enjoy the show.

---

Inside the room.

"Sit down, Charmeleon," Sam said calmly.

Charmeleon no longer showed any trace of its earlier swagger. It stood stiffly, like a child who had made a serious mistake, not daring to move.

Seeing that it didn't sit, Sam didn't force it.

"We've been together for a while now, Charmeleon," Sam continued.

Ever since discovering its potential, Sam had taken it from Ash and helped it begin a new path—one meant to reclaim its dignity.

"I don't like forcing Pokémon," Sam said quietly.

"So I'll ask you this—do you still want to travel with me?"

Even though Charmeleon had Champion-level potential, Sam would rather let it go than keep a Pokémon that refused to follow orders.

Unlike Ash, Sam would never tolerate disobedience.

Not from anyone.
