At first, I genuinely thought I was hearing the echoing moans of some horny tourist couple hiding out in the trees, or maybe some bizarre wild animal. But then, the tone shifted...turning into a wet, desperate, unmistakably familiar sob.
Then came the glowing blue portal, floating right in the rain like a sci fi projector screen.
My jaw clenched as I opened a encrypted video calling app on my laptop, typing furiously.
"Lily, you absolute hypocrite," I muttered under my breath, though a tear slipped down my nose.
"You leave me here fighting off tropical dengue fever, and you're over there getting served gourmet meat by three massive beastmen?!"
