Xu Jin stood there for a long moment, staring at the direction in which Liang Chen had disappeared.
The festival lights below the mountain continued to shimmer. Laughter and distant music still drifted through the night, and somewhere far away, people were preparing for the fireworks.
But none of it reached him anymore. Everything had become strangely quiet as he was alone in this big world.
His eyes were still fixed on the empty path where Liang Chen had vanished just a moment ago. His chest felt unbearably heavy, as though someone had placed a massive stone over his heart and left it there to hind and suffocate him to death.
He blinked slowly as if trying to stop something to not come out but still he failed.
A tear slipped from the corner of his eye.
It fell silently onto the stone ground.
Xu Jin stared at that tiny drop for several seconds before slowly lifting his fingers to his cheek which was stained with warm tear fell from his eye.
