Elena's POV
"Welcome," June greeted as she pulled the door open. "How did it go?"
My stomach twisted into knots as I stepped through the threshold.
I plastered on a strained smile, desperate to mask the ache spreading through my chest. "It went well."
"Oh, wonderful. Care to share the details?" June's voice carried genuine sweetness.
"No," I snapped, then immediately felt the sting of guilt. "Sorry, I'm just exhausted."
"Don't worry about it," June said, gathering her belongings. "At least you seem happy."
"Yeah," I lied through my teeth.
"Should I return tomorrow?"
Dorian's mention of the new house flashed through my mind. "I'll update you on how things develop," I told her.
"Sounds good," June said, heading toward the exit. "Oliver had a long nap. He might be restless tonight. Talk tomorrow."
I walked her to the door. "Goodbye," I waved before closing it firmly.
