Dorian's POV
I watched Elena's face transform from confusion to outright denial.
"No," she said, shaking her head firmly. "You can't stay here."
Sure, I didn't have to remain, but seeing her terror made my decision for me.
"Why?" I pressed.
She caught her bottom lip between her teeth, stealing a quick glance over her shoulder before meeting my eyes again. Color flooded her cheeks and her lips parted, yet no words came.
"I'm just looking out for you," I said more gently. I started to lift my hand toward her but caught myself halfway. "I... just want you to be fine."
Did I mean it? Completely. Was that everything? Hell no.
When she'd called, my pulse had jumped. I knew her anger toward me had finally faded.
"Okay," she whispered. Then she swallowed visibly. "Are you sure... there's no room available?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Or do you want me to go home?" I teased, silently praying she wouldn't agree.
"If you feel... you have to...then..."
