Elena's POV
"Help me! Somebody!" I screamed, desperately trying to pierce through the blasting music. My elbow crashed against the window repeatedly, but nothing happened.
Terror crept up my spine as the harsh truth settled in.
No one could actually hear me.
In the rearview mirror, Lexie's expression grew gentler as she turned down the volume. "Calm down. I'm not kidnapping you. All I want is your assistance."
Her sudden shift to composure didn't ease my suspicions, but I forced my muscles to relax. "Just let me out. I'll handle his debts and get back to work, I swear."
Lexie remained silent, though I caught her knuckles whitening as she gripped the steering wheel tighter.
The quiet sent another wave of panic through me, and I reached out to touch Lexie's shoulder, hoping to reason with her.
She jerked away violently. "Don't you dare touch me!"
"I'm sorry," I said quickly. "I'm so sorry."
