Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Mysterious Power

Lucan woke up with a start.

His body was stiff, muscles aching, but his mind was clearer than ever.

Light shone through the curtains, blinding Lucan.

He sat up and looked around.

He lay on a bed, sheets messy. There was a small table next to him. A beautiful flower was placed on it. A note was stuck to the table, written in black ink.

"Come to the restaurant!"

Lucan sighed and got off the bed.

The house was neatly organized.

The chairs were aligned neatly around a table. The floor was spotless. The windows were slightly open to let the breeze in. The house didn't feel like someone lived in it.

"I guess Arthur cares about cleanliness."

Lucan thought about everything that had happened up to here clearly.

"Essence of Breeze, purple flame, Steve's death, the escape, the meeting…" Lucan thought.

He decided to explore his powers before heading to the restaurant.

The Essence of Breeze allowed him to control… breezes.

Not very useful.

He held out his hand at the window and tried to control the slight breeze entering. He beckoned it to come to him. A slight gust of wind slowly separated from the rest and approached Lucan.

He moved the breeze to the flower placed on the table.

Its petals fluttered softly in the breeze.

Lucan watched as the petals danced.

A small smile crept onto his face.

He raised his other hand, guiding it with more intent. The breeze swirled itself around the flower, wrapping it in a small spiral.

The petals fluttered gracefully.

"Not bad," he said quietly. "Maybe breeze isn't AS bad as they say."

He was tiring quickly from using his power.

"I guess this is all I can do so far."

Suddenly, the air turned cold.

Lucan felt a cold shiver go up his spine.

His hands had a slight purple tint to them.

In the time it took for Lucan to blink, the flower rotted.

Its petals slowly withered, killing it.

This was the same feeling that Lucan felt when he… killed Steve Halcroft.

"What is going on?"

Then, without warning, the flower burst into flames, engulfing it in a crimson veil.

"What the-"

Lucan quickly took a cup of water and extinguished the burning flower.

"Well, at least it didn't spread," Lucan sighed with relief. "I should head to the restaurant now, they're probably waiting for me."

Lucan looked at his hands.

The purple tint had disappeared. No traces of flames either.

He shook his head, took his cloak, and went out.
