Chapter 174 -  Chapter 173: Fruit of Life

The goodness and evil of human nature are related to one's own values and life experiences.

Everything Rey saw in the underground laboratory was the ugliness of human nature. So, no matter how the researchers pleaded, Rey still set fire to everyone and everything he saw.

Since they were conducting vivisections directly, in Rey's eyes, they no longer belonged to the category of humans, but demons.

For demons from hell, there is no need for mercy; burning them is the lightest punishment.

The fire spread, crackling as it burned. Items in the laboratory began to explode in the flames.

Once a fire started here, it would spread much faster than on the floors above ground, after all, there were too many flammable items.

Walking and burning along the way, Rey went from the left side to the right.

The right side was the prison cells, the basement, or rather, the place where "materials" were kept.

Rey checked the basement rooms one by one; perhaps there were still unfortunate people locked inside.

Killing so many people did not make Rey lose his reason.

What was he doing? He had a very clear ability to distinguish whether this was right or wrong.

Rey searched through the numerous basement rooms and kicked open the door of the last one.

Bang!

Kicking open the iron door made a loud noise. This basement room was quite deep; the iron door fell, making a clanging sound.

Rey walked in; the air was filled with the smell of blood. Going down the stone stairs, he discovered three corpses.

A tortured fat man was slumped in a chair, his head lolling to one side at an extreme angle. The other two were dressed similarly to the bodyguards outside, and their bodies bore terrifying claw marks.

Just then, in a corner devoid of any light, the sound of dragging chains rang out.

After transforming into a Black Dragon many times, the abilities of a Black Dragon gradually manifested in Rey. It was just that his human body weakened these abilities significantly.

No matter how dark the night, at a distance of seven or eight meters, Rey could see clearly.

At this moment, he saw a figure dragging chains walking out from the darkness.

---

Or rather, he was not a human, but a werewolf.

Werewolves transform on the night of the full moon and return to human form afterward.

This is the rule of werewolf transformation, but the werewolf in Rey's sight now was different.

The full moon had just passed, so the werewolf should have turned back into an ordinary human. But this massive werewolf, approaching three meters tall, had absolutely no human resemblance.

Walking out of the darkness, he had iron rings bolted to his collarbones, connected to thick chains.

The chains went over his shoulders and extended into the darkness, presumably anchored to the wall behind him.

"Fallen Werewolf!"

Startled, Rey immediately took a few steps back as the werewolf walked out, maintaining a distance of five or six meters.

A genuine Fallen Werewolf; its appearance was almost identical to the werewolf Godric Gryffindor encountered outside Stonehenge a thousand years ago.

With bulging muscles and a massive frame, even walking slowly, he exuded a strong sense of oppression. He was somewhat different from the Fallen Werewolves Rey had seen; his body didn't have accumulated dried blood and was relatively clean.

His eyes were also different from ordinary werewolves; they were human eyes.

His eyes scanned Rey, who was on guard a few meters away. Then he stopped moving and asked in surprise, "You're not afraid of me?"

"You can still speak human language?"

The werewolf was surprised that Rey wasn't afraid at all, and Rey was also somewhat surprised that the Fallen Werewolf before him could still speak human language.

According to the evolution of time, the race of Fallen Werewolves had basically disappeared. Even those that hadn't disappeared hid in mountains where humans never set foot.

Their language function degraded, their behavior approached that of beasts, and finally, they became beasts.

These records were clearly documented in the library materials. But the werewolf in front of him clearly contradicted the records, actually able to communicate with people.

Although Rey retreated to guard against him, he left enough distance for himself to transform. He was somewhat surprised because he didn't sense any tyrannical aura from the Fallen Werewolf.

"I am not a werewolf, I am a human! I haven't killed a single person indiscriminately."

An unwilling roar erupted. Clearly, this Fallen Werewolf, over two meters tall, did not admit to his identity as a werewolf.

---

"Looking like this, you can't be considered human at all," Rey said calmly.

Facing such a giant werewolf, Rey had no worries. At a distance of a few meters, even if the werewolf could rush over, he had enough time to transform. Moreover, the werewolf before him was chained.

If he could break free of the chains as thick as a child's arm, he would have rushed out of this basement long ago.

"I'll give you a quick end!"

Rey didn't have a good impression of Fallen Werewolves. They would eventually lose themselves in power and become beasts that only knew slaughter. Even if he still had human reason now, that reason would disappear in the future.

Moreover, Rey didn't believe his words at all.

A Fallen Werewolf claiming not to have killed anyone indiscriminately, using such a childish lie to cheat for a chance to live. Rey didn't know whether to call him childish or smart.

Burning him to ashes instantly with blue flame was the quickest method Rey could think of.

After all, in some religious cultures, fire can purify everything.

Rey's body transformed instantly, elongating and heightening, with dark, gleaming scales appearing. Transformed into a Black Dragon, he was much taller and larger than the Fallen Werewolf, both in body size and height.

Spreading his winged arms, he raised his dragon head, blue flames gathering in his mouth. The deep, dark feeling made one feel that even metal and steel would instantly turn to molten iron under this flame.

The massive werewolf, approaching three meters tall, was dumbfounded by Rey's transformation.

He never expected the little guy in front of him to instantly turn into a Black Dragon even bigger than himself. Especially the blue dragon fire in that large mouth gave the Fallen Werewolf an unprecedented sense of crisis.

"Wait, wait!"

The Fallen Werewolf roared urgently twice in succession. Then he spoke at the fastest speed of his life: "I can turn into a human, I am a human. I drank water from the Moonwell; I haven't killed anyone indiscriminately."

"You should know magic; you can use that memory-searching magic. I can prove it to you. I can swear allegiance to you with a Blood Oath."

Facing life and death, speaking incoherently, the Fallen Werewolf hurriedly expressed a jumbled stream of thoughts.

---

"Wait!"

Just as Rey was about to spew dragon fire, Rowena's voice sounded in his mind to stop him.

"What he says might be true," Rowena's voice continued.

"True?" Rey asked suspiciously, closing his dragon mouth, the blue dragon fire vanishing. This made the Fallen Werewolf heave a huge sigh of relief and slump to the ground with a thud.

"Yes, it's very likely true. Especially the Moonwell he mentioned."

"Moonwell!?"

"Yes, the holy water of the Elves. Drinking it can protect one's mind from darkness. If..." Rowena explained to Rey, but stopped mid-sentence, perhaps unsure if what she was going to say next was true.

"And what?" Rey pressed. Rey believed that Elves had existed in this world, but the entire race had disappeared later.

Whether they migrated or something else happened, they were a race full of mystery.

"If the Moonwell is real, then the Tree of Life of the Elves is also real. To restore my body and achieve true resurrection, I must obtain the Fruit of Life. Your little girlfriend is the same."

"Fruit of Life!"

Rey's heart tightened; this was something he dreamed of. He only knew that the Divine Kingdom had a Tree of Life, a story confirmed by Rowena Ravenclaw.

Now, unexpectedly, besides the Divine Kingdom, the Elves also had a Tree of Life. In this way, he might be able to obtain it without opening the gate to the Divine Kingdom.

How could this not move Rey?

Rey naturally believed Rowena's words. He turned to stare at the Fallen Werewolf slumped on the ground, preparing to search his memory with magic, just as the werewolf had suggested.
