Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

When he turned to check where it came from, something hit his back from the opposite direction hard enough to make him stumble. He rubbed his back and turned to see a wooden box on the floor. It must have been on top of the cabinet.

"Looks like the spirit is already angry at us. Stay alert. She's over there." Kian spoke casually, unhinged, pointing at an empty corner.

No concern, no "are you okay," no nothing! Fucker clearly saw the spirit but didn't even warn me! Xal was already near the red line of his anger meter. He kept his mouth shut, fists clenched, holding himself back from punching Kian square in the face.

"Aren't you supposed to tell me where the spirit is, since you're the only one who can see it? Or do the thing you did before and let me see it?" Xal spoke through his teeth, hiding his seething.

"Can't waste my energy on it. Aren't you supposed to be Mr. Immortal with amazing combat abilities? You should've dodged it." Kian responded, not even bothering to look at him.

Xal wasn't so sure about helping these people to get rid of the spirit, but he was absolutely sure he was going to commit murder today.

Deep breaths, Xal. Calm down. You need him to find Khem. This is going to be your everyday life. Xal shifted his focus to anything that moved. Not even a minute after, he was hit with another basket, and then all the clothes from the cupboard came flying out, showering him, a few dropping onto the circle Kian was drawing.

"Would you please at least be useful and take these clothes away? I have to finish this soon." Kian scolded as he moved away to pick some crystals from the box. Two of those were almost clear, transparent, and the other two were violet, and he placed them on 4 of the symbols in four corners.

Xal's whole face turned red as he collected the clothes and shoved them back into the cupboard.

"Make sure you fold them," Kian said, still crouched down, with his back turned.

"You fu…" Xal made choking hand gestures at Kian's neck and sat down on the couch nearby, starting to fold the clothes.

There were undergarments among them. Xal took a shirt, put his hand under it, and single-handedly folded those first. Then, put another shirt over the other hand, picked them all up, and put them inside the cupboard.

Halfway through, Kian called Xal.

"Okay, all set. As I said, I'll start forming the connection. I need to stay inside the circle to give me the power to drag my mind back to my body. Since my mind will be completely occupied, I'm not aware of what's happening outside. Like, if you pinch me, I won't feel it. Not even if someone…" Kian stopped talking, seemingly disturbed to continue. "…stabs me, I won't feel it. And I won't hear anything till I end the connection with the spirit."

Xal glanced at him for a second before speaking. "I need to keep your physical body unharmed and inside the circle. Got it."

Kian nodded and sat down inside the circle, one hand held in the air, the other clutched onto a black crystal piece with bluish shades, chanted something, and his eyes flashed white before they closed, and his body went limp and hit the ground with a loud thud, except the hand held in the air, which remained the same.
