Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Feeling thirsty again, Kian pocketed the phone and went to pour another glass of water. The cold liquid slid down his throat.

For an introvert, he had spent way too much time with way too many people, which gave him a good intuition for spotting good ones.

Xalvatore seemed like a good person, probably kind-hearted under that strong, stoic exterior that would make girls go into fan mode immediately. Not just the formation of the white thread, his intuition allowed him to trust him.

Kian decided he would call him Xal for short.

Xalvatore was a mouthful.

He slumped over the chair again, thinking again about how Xal would act once he woke up. The excitement built up again.

It spread like a drop of paint across a surface of colorless water.

Only descendants of clans like his could see and interact with the spirit dimension. Hence, Xal would need some equipment and training before he started working.

He kept on imagining how they would go on helping more people, helping more spirits to move on, kicking the butts of the bad guys, and wondered if Xal would join him for a movie marathon. He hadn't had one in the longest time because he never liked watching movies or anything alone.

Thirty good minutes passed before his knee started bouncing, the heel of the shoe tapping continuously, filling the room.

He checked Xal's pulse; it was steady, but he still wasn't waking up.

The pale light from the bedside lamp cast soft shadows across Xal's face, highlighting the worn-out features he didn't have before.

If he couldn't handle a few minutes looking at the spirit dimension, it would be difficult for him to keep on interacting with the dimension, which may become an issue.

Kian leaned down and shook his shoulder, calling out his name, "Mr. Renharth! You need to wake up! Can you hear me?" But he was greeted with horrifying silence.

Just when he thought of calling an ambulance, a phone rang, startling him.

Xal's phone.

Kian waited for a while, took it out of his pocket as it kept ringing.

"Oh… It's your mom." He voiced out and stared at it for a few more seconds, the call ended, only to start ringing again.
