Chapter 24 - First Day[5]

And the class went on until the bell rang again.

After Language was Math class, taught by a tall man with the physique of a bodybuilder, black hair, and black eyes.

The Math class passed after what felt like ages. Math class was followed by Science class, taught by a woman who appeared to be in her late 20s. She was kind of clumsy. She had green hair and black eyes.

After that, the bell rang once again, and the students went to the cafeteria.

The cafeteria was one big space. There were labels on each block with their own canteens. Rowayne and the others of A-R went to the block labeled Grade A.

This was the common lunch area for Grade A, so naturally they were joined by Grade A of the other houses.

And as a wise man once said, "Where there are kids, there is drama." And there were kids, so naturally, drama came along

The kids from each house were wary of the others, as everyone had received a similar speech during the homeroom period. Perhaps that's why it was easier to notice when a bunch of kids grouped up against a kid from House Reliquiae who was a little overweight, the chubby type with a round face.

"Can we sit here?" a girl said.

"Sure," replied the boy, though the girl and her group seemed to be sitting down before he did.

Everyone had their eyes on that table. The boy and the girls from the other house seemed to be conversing, so little by little, the eyes on them lessened.

Even Rowayne started focusing on his food and conversing with Shen and Ariel.

"Dude, you could order anything. This place serves every popular food in the nine continents. You can even order a custom meal for additional credits, and you chose dumplings.", Rowayne said looking at Shen's plate

"Hmm, what's wrong with that?"

"Nothing in particular, but you're a swordsman."

"Yes."

"You usually wear, umm… I forgot what it's exactly called, but I'll say the male version of a yukata. You get what I mean?"

"It's a robe."

"...Which is held by a ribbon, a bit more colored so it doesn't look like a bathrobe."

"Okay, and what's the problem?"

"A swordsman, eating dumplings in a robe with chopsticks. You don't get the reference?"

"No?"

"Me neither. And it's called hanfu," Ariel cuts in.

"Do neither of you read any manga, manhwa, or manhua?"

"No."

"No. And what's the difference between the last two?"

"No idea. The key feature is that one is from Korea and the other is from China, but we don't know what either of those are."

"So it's the same as French fries, where we have no idea where the 'French' in it came from."

(A/N ~ Will be explained in the history class chapter, as best as I can.)

"Yeah, but back to the topic. He looks like he's cosplaying a sword cultivator."

"What is a sword cultivator? Do they grow swords?"

"No… How do you even get the idea of growing swords, Ariel? They're made of metal, not trees. And we're getting sidetracked again. How are you guys not reading any online media?"

"My parents restricted my internet access back home."

"I can't see."

"You can listen to an audiobook."

"The narration makes me sleepy."

"…"

"And should you really be commenting on food? You're eating French fries, chips, gnocchi with aloo paratha, and dum aloo."

"What's wrong with potatoes? Potatoes are great. And how do you even know what I am eating, you can't even see!"

"Sure, whatever. Just make sure to finish it."

"Okay, Dad." Shen made a disgusted face. Ariel also had a funny expression after hearing their discussion.

"What's the next class?"

"History."

"How do you know?"

"The teacher passed out the timetable with the rules."

"Sneaky move."

"…"

"Anyway, I'm full."

[Form Shift.]

"Time to eat more!"

"You can do that? Are you…?"

"No, that wasn't shapeshifting in the traditional sense. I possess three bodies I can switch between, each with its own unique anatomy and fully functional nervous system.

The downside is that I cannot possess them simultaneously, so I can only switch between them. I also need to consume food to keep up the biological functions of each body separately. And let's not talk about the pronoun issue."

"Okay…"

Bam.

The sound of someone slamming their hand on the table echoed through the hall, drawing eyes from every corner of the block.
