Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Sky-High Price for Jon Snow

The accompanying maester quickly treated the white-haired woman's wounds.

Jon stood by and watched.

He noticed that the white-haired woman seemed to have many flame patterns tattooed on her body.

One of the patterns looked very much like wings.

He temporarily committed that pattern to memory, then asked the woman named Kuno what her so-called 'treasure' was.

"It's, it's warriors, uh, I mean an army, it's an army, my, my lord."

Kuno stammered, apparently not very good at lying.

Jon clearly remembered her mentioning phrases and descriptions like 'the whole world has disappeared'.

However, he didn't press Kuno, but instead followed her lead and asked what was going on with this 'army'.

Seeing that she had 'hidden' it, Kuno's tense body relaxed slightly.

It turned out that the warriors Tyrion had taken away were only about half of the entire Moon Mountains.

Nearly half of the tribes had not allied with them.

Kuno stated that if Jon needed an army, she and her tribe could act as intermediaries to recruit more people for Jon.

Of course, Jon would also need to offer appropriate compensation to win over those people.

Jon knew this fellow wasn't telling the truth.

However, there were still many battles to be fought, and if he could really raise another army, that would certainly be very good.

The Moon Mountains were not far from their current location, so a trip there wouldn't be much trouble.

He ordered someone to keep an eye on the white-haired woman and Kuno, thinking that if there was time, he could indeed go to the Moon Mountains.

As for the so-called treasure, Jon was confident that with Gods Perspective, he wouldn't fail to find it if he really looked.

Early the next morning, Jon received news from Roose Bolton—Tywin had agreed to meet them.

After they met, Roose Bolton said calmly:

"Jon, Tywin has agreed to meet us; you can go then."

"My lord jests." Jon scoffed inwardly, "You are the commander of our entire army; I am merely a bastard. Sending a bastard to meet a Duke will make others laugh at the North."

Jon was truly uneasy about leaving his back to Lord Blood Leech.

Roose Bolton said nothing, but agreed to go with Jon.

Roose Bolton suggested bringing only his Dreadfort direct lineage as an escort, but Harrion strongly insisted on bringing his own men as well.

To be safe, they brought everyone.

Roose Bolton said nothing, but it was evident he was not pleased to be suspected.

Thus, in the open ground between the Northern Army and the Western Army, two groups of over a hundred men slowly approached each other.

The difference was that the Northern Army carried the Dreadfort's flayed man banner, the Karstark's winter sun banner, and Jon's white wolf banner.

The Western Army, on the other hand, only had a single large red lion banner!

Jon was almost the first to spot Tyrion mingling in the ranks.

Perhaps because he was on horseback, though still short, he wasn't as conspicuously short.

And then there was Tywin beside Tyrion.

This burly, already bald Duke of Casterly Rock rode his horse with a rather imposing and dignified air.

Tywin was followed by the Mountain, whose shadow almost enveloped the already robust Tywin.

As they drew closer, Tyrion also spotted Jon.

He couldn't help but pick up his spyglass to look, finally confirming that the one who had turned the tide that day was the bastard he had 'educated' in Winterfell.

But the changes in Jon were so great that he almost dared not confirm it.

If the old Jon was filled with an aura of inferiority and detachment, then the current Jon exuded an air of confidence.

'Is this... really him?' Tyrion murmured.

Both sides left their retinues in place, and Tywin advanced with Tyrion to negotiate.

Although he had been polite to Roose Bolton before coming, there was no need for modesty in this situation.

Jon, without hesitation, was the first to speak:

"Duke Tywin, I am Jon Snow, Eddard's bastard, and I am here to negotiate terms with you."

Tywin surveyed Jon with his green eyes, then spoke:

"I thought your true commander was Roose Bolton. I didn't expect Robb to send you to command the army?

Ser Bolton, do you calmly accept such an insult?"

Based on his years of experience, Tywin could tell there must be discord between Jon and Bolton.

He seized the opportunity to sow discord.

'Heh heh, an old fox is indeed an old fox.'

Jon laughed in his heart, not feeling angry that the other party ignored him.

In business, this was merely a common trick to provoke an opponent.

So Jon retorted, "That's nothing compared to Lord Tywin, whose wife was cuckolded, and he didn't even utter a peep."

"Jon!"

Tyrion, beside him, couldn't hold back. Jon was talking about Tywin's wife, and his mother.

Tywin's face also turned pale with rage. Joanna was a sacred, inviolable place in his heart, and for many years, no one had dared to speak ill of Joanna in his presence.

"Did Eddard not teach you how to speak to nobles?" Tywin said coldly.

"I'm just an ill-mannered bastard. If I've offended you, please forgive me," Jon said indifferently.

Tyrion suddenly remembered something he had once told or advised Jon: "Turn your weaknesses into armor, and you will be invincible."

He hadn't expected him to apply it so skillfully so quickly.

After a moment, it was Tyrion who spoke to ease the atmosphere.

"I think we are here to resolve matters. Lady Catelyn imprisoned me without evidence. If it weren't for Ser Bronn, I would have died in the Eyrie. My father is merely seeking justice for me."

"Seeking justice with the blood of innocent people in the Riverlands?" Jon retorted, "Isn't that bullying the weak and fearing the strong? When Robert was sleeping around, why didn't your father go to the Stormlands, or to King's Landing, to seek justice for Cersei?"

"Enough, Jon!" Tyrion spoke again.

This was one of the few times he was outmatched in a verbal spar.

Fortunately, both sides finally began to state their terms.

Tywin was the first to speak: "I can release your father, on the grounds that he was instigated by others, but on the condition that he must join the Nights Watch! Because his mistake has already been made!"

Tywin knew that for Joffrey to secure his throne, Eddard had to be out of the picture.

And going to the Wall was a good outcome, at least it wouldn't lead to an endless, deadly conflict between the Lannister and Stark houses.

"Hmph, then my terms are: release my father, restore his honor, and he remains Hand of the King.

Furthermore, the King's Landing City Watch must be replaced by the Northern Army, and the Master of Laws, Master of Coin, and Grand Maester on the Small Council must all be appointed by Winterfell.

The next king must have Stark blood in him.

Which means Sansa must become queen, and her son must become king!

If she dies in childbirth, chokes on cake, dies of illness, or is struck by lightning, I will blame all of you Lannisters!"
