Chapter 54 - The Shattered Mirror

Adriana lunged. She didn't aim for the drone; she aimed for the center of her own reflection's chest.

She slammed the "Win/Loss" Paradox into the liquid-metal skin.

The impact didn't make a sound. Instead, it created a Conceptual Vacuum. The Sentry Reflector screamed—a digital screech that tore through the Bronx's silence. It was trying to process the data: How can a subject be the victor and the victim simultaneously?

The Feedback Trap

As the Sentry began to implode, the "Logical Feedback" surged back up Adriana's arm. Her vision fractured. Suddenly, she wasn't in the Bronx anymore. She was standing in a hallway of infinite mirrors. In every mirror, a different version of her life played out.

• In one, she was still in the Museum basement, alone and forgotten.

• In another, she was an Overseer, cold and porcelain-skinned.

• In a third, she was a child, her mother's hand still warm in hers.

"Focus, Weaver!" the Error-Log's voice sounded like it was coming from miles away. "The Paradox is trying to sort you into a single folder! You have to remain Uncategorized!"

Adriana felt her edges blurring. She was becoming a 1, then a 0, then a 1 again. She was being "Normalized."

"I am not a result!" she roared into the hall of mirrors. "I am the Glitch!"

She reached out and smashed the mirror showing her as an Overseer. Then she smashed the one showing her as a victim. She refused the "Clean" versions of herself. She embraced the mess—the grief of the statue in the tunnel, the heat of the Paradox, the grease on Elias's hands.

With a final, violent surge of will, she pulled her consciousness back into her physical body.
