Chapter 1 - The Lie We Breath

~~In the city of Virelli where the scepter of the city lay in his hands, I never knew I was soon to be the key to many secrets~~

I stared at the name in front of me which read the Onyx club. Yes, that was the name of the top tiered club and tonight I am taking a job as a stripper. Weird innit?

My name is Sera. I need every cent I can get for a surgery-one that gives me a chance to become a mother. My fiancé Dave had said we could always adopt a child, but I wanted one of my own and also to find out what it looked like in childbearing. Dave was the first person who made the idea of a home feel real, and I'd do anything to keep that light in his eyes when he looks at me. He has no idea of my plans tonight; he just thinks I am working a double job at a cafe.

I sought help from Estelle;my childhood friend and she gave me her spot as a stripper at the Onyx for today since she had a business to deal with. As I stepped closer to the club entrance, the noise hit me-then vanished. The pounding bass, the laughter, the clinking glasses all blurred into a distant echo as if someone had turned the world's volume down.

My heartbeat was louder than everything else.

Fear settled in my chest, cold and sharp, yet underneath, something stubborn lit up. Defiance, Resolve. The need to prove to myself that I wouldn't run. I needed this, I said to myself then reached for the door handle.

I gulped down the drink on the counter and started moving towards the room Estelle told me about earlier.

The hallway of the club seemed like an unending dark alleyway. Everything was revolving around me in circles. What the hell did I gulp down? Suddenly, a shock of courage ran through me and I wondered where the energy breathing in me came from.

I made my way into one of the VIP suites. The smoky room from all the vape made the air difficult for me to breathe in and my vision foggy too. "You don't look like you belong here queen", a taut, deep, yet soothing voice made its way through the smoke to me. The suite was clearer now and there he was, my partner for tonight.

He didn't just look like power; he smelled like it - sandalwood, dark tobacco, and something sharper, like rain on hot coal. He was standing there with his back to me, and I swear my heart just stopped. He was draped in only a towel around his waist, like he just crawled out of the shower. Covered across his shoulder blades was this huge dark viper tattoo.

It moved every time his muscles flexed, making the snake look like it was actually crawling over his skin.

When he turned around to face me, I couldn't believe it. He was built just like a Greek god in ancient times. He was tall-way taller than the description Estelle gave me, and his skin was so beautiful. Rich chocolate color that looked so smooth in the dim light.

I couldn't stop my eyes from scanning down from his chest to his abs. They were so defined with those deep hot lines that make you want to reach out and see if they're real.

His hair cut was a fresh wavy tapered fade. But then he looked right at me, and I realized his eyes were this piercing blue that stood so much against his skin. It almost felt like he was looking through me.

Standing there like that, he was easily the most intimidating-and the most attractive man I have ever seen.

I was all tensed up. We need this, "Focus", I said to my inner self. It is just for tonight and nothing else.

"So, show me what you got", his voice lowered in my ears and I froze." I knew you didn't belong here. You look so innocent for this.", he said, gradually getting close to me.

As he stepped into my space, his scent hit me- sandalwood and something cold, like rain.

His body gave off a heat like that of a hot coal. It was the smell of a man with many secrets but that was not one of my worries.

Suddenly, a sharp, impatient knock at the door stirred up the tension in me. Before he could grant permission, the door swung open with a bang.

A woman swept in, curvy, slender and draped in clothes that cost more than my surgery ever would. She didn't just walk in; she colonized the room. Her eyes darted around till they landed on me with a look of pure venom.

"And who is this slut?", she spat, her voice like a whip.
