Lord Jethro repeated the thought to himself a thousand times since leaving Grey's office, since closing the door without a word after finding them caught in that heated moment.
The memory kept replaying in his mind like a cruel loop, each time making him ache a little more.
It was stupid of him to feel like they didn't actually need him.
Stupid to think that they could just be around each other and not feel the urge to get close.
Stupid to assume that their closeness somehow diminished his place with them.
He knew, rationally, that it was their relationship too, that they loved each other, that it wasn't their fault he couldn't always be around in the way he wanted. But knowing it and feeling it were two entirely different things.
And, no matter how much he tried to reason with himself, to act like the adult he knew he should be, the emotions refused to calm.
