After a long drive, the car finally began to slow, the tires crunching softly against gravel as they came to a stop in front of a massive iron gate.
It stood tall and imposing, wrought with patterns that didn't look forged by ordinary hands. The metal twisted in unnatural curves, symbols etched so finely they almost seemed to move when stared at for too long.
Even before stepping inside, the sight alone was enough to leave Grey momentarily stunned.
The car came to a full stop, the engine humming softly.
"Just like an enigma in our empire," Ethan said, breaking the silence, "the one we're going to meet is the same as that." His tone was low, cautious, as if he were preparing Grey for something he himself did not fully understand.
Grey swallowed. "She must be so powerful then," he murmured.
The words left his mouth without thinking them through, and only afterward did he realize he had already assumed the witch was a woman.
