Grey was still lost in his thoughts when a few Alphas approached him.
Their presence pulled him back to the room, to the weight of eyes and expectations. One by one, they greeted him, offering congratulations and welcoming words, their voices respectful, some even warm.
They spoke of cooperation, loyalty, and stability.
Others, however, did not approach at all.
They stood, exchanged glances, and left without a word.
Grey noticed them as they walked past him, their expressions tight, their steps brisk. He didn't need anyone to tell him what that meant.
Jealousy sat thick in the air, jealousy and resentment. A pack had just grown larger, stronger, and the one placed at its head was someone they viewed as a child.
Someone who hadn't fought his way up the ranks the way they had.
Grey pretended not to notice.
