Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Slurping Noodles with Elysia Cat

Kiyono Inori was the type who always had wild ideas popping up in the kitchen.

That said, she had studied cooking properly and systematically. Her grasp of culinary theory was solid, so she rarely made failed dishes, let alone something as simple as a bowl of noodles.

"What are you doing?"

When Kiyono Inori carried the carefully prepared noodles out, Elysia Cat was tilting her round, fluffy head, trying to pry open a soda can with her teeth. No matter how she bit at it, she could not catch the pull tab, and she ended up rolling around on the floor with the can in her paws.

Once again, the urge rose in the girl's heart to scoop Elysia Cat up and spoil her rotten. Still, she maintained her usual cool expression.

"Waaah, a kitty body is way too inconvenient! Even a soda can can bully me! Inori-chan, hurry and open it for me!"

Elysia Cat vented her frustration by kicking the drink over to Kiyono Inori with her little paws.

Strawberry Peach Sparkling Water.

"This doesn't taste that great, and it's carbonated. You'll get hiccups. Girls getting hiccups isn't very elegant, you know."

"You're right, but right now I'm just a tiny little kitty. And it's all pink and cute, it looks so tasty!"

Strawberries and peaches were pink anyway.

Since Elysia wanted to try it, Kiyono Inori opened the can after all and thoughtfully stuck in a long straw.

At last, Elysia Cat got her wish and drank the fizzy soda. Her triangular kitty mouth went glug glug.

"It really doesn't taste that good," she said after letting go of the straw. "It's not as nice as those pink drinks Eden mixes for me."

"My dear Elysia, this is just an ordinary drink you can find anywhere. How could it possibly compare to something personally mixed by a big star like Eden?"

Kiyono Inori sounded helpless.

"That makes sense, meow?!"

Elysia Cat went back to the straw, but it slipped to the side, so she hurriedly held it steady with her paw. "By the way, Inori-chan, can you summon Eden, Mobius, and the others here?"

"Honestly, I don't know. I can only say it might be possible in the future."

Kiyono Inori spoke, but in the end, desire won over reason.

She took out her phone and snapped a picture of Elysia Cat holding the straw and drinking. Elysia Cat was just too unfairly adorable.

"Dear Elysia Cat, I've decided. You're becoming my phone wallpaper," Kiyono Inori announced in the lofty tone of a young lady promoting a subordinate.

"Huh…?"

When it came to her image as a beautiful girl, Elysia Cat stopped drinking altogether and leaned her fluffy head toward the phone.

"Let me see. Whoa, that's really cute! Can you send me a copy? Um, I want to use this as my wallpaper too!"

Elysia Cat was charmed by her own cuteness.

But halfway through, she suddenly remembered that her phone was still in another world. Her round kitty face immediately lost its smile.

"Well, even if we can't send the photo to your world, if you want, I can buy you a phone here. Then you could use it as your wallpaper."

Seeing Elysia Cat looking pitiful, Kiyono Inori offered a fallback option.

"Huh?! Better not." Elysia Cat shook her head. "That must be really expensive. I'm a frugal, good-with-money kitty, meow!"

"Our family isn't short on money."

"Nope, nope, meow."

Elysia Cat refused, swishing her tail.

She seemed to be very fond of that tail, constantly waving it around. She even used it to make little heart shapes, which was especially cute.

Kiyono Inori watched Elysia Cat while halfheartedly replying to messages on LINE.

A cute girl was welcome anywhere, let alone a charm-ten succubus girl like Kiyono Inori.

Friends from her hometown in Fukui, girls at her new high school who wanted to befriend her, and her parents' endless chatter.

It never ended.

There was no way to reply to everything.

But Kiyono Inori was a reincarnator and had a clear understanding of her own looks. So the image she presented to the outside world was that of a young lady raised under strict discipline, not very good with electronic devices.

As a result, she only needed to reply to close friends and family, and that was enough.

On the other side, Elysia Cat's big eyes were fixed on the noodles Kiyono Inori had made.

Mushrooms, napa cabbage, grilled tofu, chicken.

The broth was light in color, clearly reflecting the colors of all the ingredients inside. Everything was cut into sizes a cat could eat in one bite, and it even came with a ring-handled children's spoon that a cat could use.

Impressive.

Whether it was cooking skill or thoughtfulness, Elysia Cat gave Kiyono Inori high marks.

Elysia herself was also quite attentive, but she was not the type who excelled at cooking. She lacked patience in that regard.

Holding the ring handle with her kitty paws, Elysia Cat scooped up a spoonful of chicken and radish.

"Tasty, meow."

That settled the question of flavor.

Elysia Cat did not really understand cooking, but back in the Previous Era, she had traveled to many places and tasted countless foods.

This was already at a level better than the noodles made by Kevin or the Fire Moth cafeteria, though still not quite on par with some high-end restaurants on the continent of Mu.

Elysia Cat chewed carefully, enjoying the way the broth, seasonings, and the ingredients' own flavors slowly spread through her little kitty mouth.

Slurp, slurp.

Just as she was about to praise Kiyono Inori, she saw her walk over and hand her a toothbrush, a towel, and other toiletries.

"I'm going to sleep, Elysia. Remember to wash up properly before bed," Kiyono Inori said.

"Huh…? Good night, meow."

Elysia Cat glanced at the quartz clock on the wall. It was 10:40. She did not know whether that counted as early, but she still said good night.

"Good night."

Kiyono Inori nodded. "They say cats get more energetic the later it gets, so let me tell you something you might be interested in."

"Gulp, gulp."

The noodle-slurping Elysia Cat tilted her head cutely, clearly intrigued.

"I've foreseen it."

Kiyono Inori took out a map she had just drawn. "At 2 a.m., the magical girls of this world and the Monster Executive will fight at this location."

She pointed to a red dot in the center of the map and added,

"If you're interested, you can go take a look. Of course, it's fine if you don't. These are my house keys and the community access card. I'll leave them here. Don't fall asleep outside. Remember to come home."

"Slurp. Does Inori-chan want me to go?" Elysia Cat was still eating her noodles.

"…" Kiyono Inori rested her chin on her hand and said in a soft, weak voice, "Mm, just do whatever you feel like. I'm going to sleep. I'm so sleepy."

"Okay! Sweet dreams!"

Elysia Cat let out a playful meow.

Before bed.

As usual, Kiyono Inori did the stretching routine customized for her by the Kiyono family doctor, relaxing her muscles.

Her attention, however, was not on the movements, but on other things.

Elysia Cat had been very satisfied with the feeding and generously handed out a quest reward of 1200 cat biscuits.

Seven and a half pulls.

Also.

When Elysia Cat used that fairy healing magic on herself earlier, there was no Honkai energy involved. So how had she used it?

Kiyono Inori could not figure it out. All she could do was replay the moment again and again in her mind, analyzing the fluctuations of magic power and the healing airflow she had felt.

The fifteen-minute stretching routine ended.

The combined mental and physical effort left Kiyono Inori's eyes so heavy she could barely keep them open. But just before falling asleep, she gently rested a hand on her abdomen and clumsily mimicked a Healing spell.

A warm current of air flowed into her stomach, easing the discomfort in her digestive system after vomiting.

It worked.

The instant she realized her success, the frail girl was pulled into a deep, heavy sleep.
