Bella's POV
We finally escaped the sterile hospital walls with Toby curled peacefully against my lap in the backseat of Fiona's sedan. His tiny fingers pressed against my stomach like he was marking his territory all over again, even after surviving the nightmare we'd just endured together.
"You can crash at my place for now until you figure something else out," Fiona said, catching my eye in the rearview mirror. "I mean, seriously Bella, who the hell bounces back from a hospital stay and acts like nothing happened after not long? You're incredible."
A weak laugh escaped my throat, though it held no real humor. Just bone-deep exhaustion. "I don't have the luxury of needing help when my son is depending on me, Fiona. No point in overthinking it."
She shook her head like I was speaking nonsense. "But the doctor specifically said you need monitoring and rest. I'm calling Mrs. Rose to come stay with you."
