Three days had passed since Lyra decided to left the hotel room where she had been caged for weeks. Yet there was still no sign of Elara returning.
Lyra couldn't help but fret over her absence. Her mind was entirely unable to settle without knowing where Elara could be, keeping her stationary and vigilant by the window, waiting to catch any possible glimpse of her.
With a sudden click and a turn of the doorknob behind her, her heart leaped from her chest in pure anticipation, right before she saw who had just arrived.
Her heart fell with a quiet dismay upon seeing Max.
Max was looking at her with an encouraging, gentle smile.
"Are you ready?" she asked kindly.
Deep down, Max tried her absolute best not to show her profound disappointment at seeing how eager Lyra still was for her sister's return. She knew that was the exact reason Lyra kept watching the grounds outside the window.
She desperately wanted to see Elara walk back through those doors.
