"How could you do that?"
That was an extensive question. Especially for Elara. How could she keep her locked away? How could she mark her? Or maybe how could she treat her so shamefully?
She easily could have gone and ordered the female staff to do this; the campus wasn't short on nurses, after all. But she didn't want to let anyone else near Lyra. She hated the thought of someone else fretting over her, being with her, touching her, and seeing her in the vulnerable state she was in now. It didn't matter if it was a doctor or a friend. Only Elara must be with her.
Elara carefully kept wiping Lyra's shivering, frail body. The moment her hand reached Lyra's stomach, Elara's own frame froze for a split second.
