Chapter 107 - Heavy Burden To Carry

Elara stepped into the stall, the spray of the shower hissing as it hit the tile.

Max tilted her head back, her eyes darting toward her sister's lower midsection with a mix of awe and morbid curiosity.

Elara followed the glance. She looked down once, unimpressed, then turned her back to the spray as if Max had commented on the weather.

​"You're barely human, carrying a weapon like that," Max joked, though her voice lacked its usual punch. "You should honestly get a suppressor ring or something. You're going to break someone."

​"Everything fits just fine without a ring," Elara replied coolly, the water slicking her black hair down her spine.

Max barked a short laugh, though it thinned halfway through.

"Is the person even okay? Are they still breathing?"

​"They struggle a bit during the peak," Elara said, her tone as nonchalant as if she were discussing a fluctuating stock price.

​Max let out a low, theatrical boo, but her sister remained unmoved, simply stating facts.
