—Let me see your face.

—I might forget what you look like.

The message from Alex flashed on the screen, and my heart nearly stopped.

The moment I read it, I scrambled out of Elara's house. Luckily, it was my day off, and Elara had already left for work. Even though the lingering heaviness in my bones told me I should be resting, there was no time for that now.

Even if I had been bedridden, if Alex asked to meet, I would have swallowed a handful of painkillers and crawled out the door.

The landlord of the boarding house didn't care what happened in the rooms as long as the rent was paid on time, so my belongings were exactly where I had left them.

Still, a thin layer of dust had settled over the small TV and the floorboards.

I grabbed a broom and a mop, hurriedly sweeping and scrubbing before he could arrive. In a way, it felt like I was destroying evidence of my absence.
