Chapter 63 - New Jutsu, pt 5

AN:

I'm back! I'm sorry for the long silence, something happened irl and I was unable to write, living in a country that is in a state of war is no joke, but it's ok now, and I'm sure you are not interested in my excuses for being away for soo long, so I'll get straight to business. The story will continue, I'm planning to post frequent updates for a while, maybe a chapter a day or so, and also, I have some new ideas for a new story or two, but that has to wait a bit, and don't worry, NTT will remain as a top priority even if I'll start a new fic or a novel, I really want to see NTT through and eventually completed.

--- End of AN

(June, year 54 AK)

"I see." Shisui said with a complicated expression, after Yuta told him everything he knew about Obito's skills and weaknesses, "Capturing or killing him would indeed be difficult..."

As Shisui was lost in thoughts, Yuta returned his attention to the Shisui's genjutsu once again and started to analyze it, as he was very interested in how the Sharingan Genjutsu works. He already had experienced Obito's Sharingan Genjutsu, although it was completely different from this one.

His vision was still being turned a little grayish, although Yuta figured out it was just a simple matter of vision altering, more like an indicator for him that he is still inside a genjutsu than anything else.

Yuta concentrated on his chakra flow and chakra network, he felt a strong presence of foreign chakra concentrated around his brain and eyes, although the sense of the foreign chakra was vague and unclear, Yuta assumed it was a signature of the Sharingan Genjutsu.

Trying to get a better sense of the foreign chakra wasn't very helpful for Yuta in understanding the inner workings of the genjutsu though, and Yuta shifted his focus on his own chakra flow, analyzing all the abnormalities that was going on. He was able to notice the affected parts of his chakra flow that was cutting his vision and sight, replacing it with a completely different input that was produced by the genjutsu itself, but as he was about to start analyzing in detail, Yuta heard Shisui's voice that distracted him from further analyzing the genjutsu.

"It would be too dangerous to try to lure Obito out and fight him right now." Shisui said, "I need to prepare to have better chances against him. If you get any new information on him, please let me know immediately."

"Of course." Yuta replied, while he thought, 'Shisui wants to prepare to fight Obito? What he even wants to prepare I wonder, it's not as if stacking up more shurikens and ninja wire into your ninja pouch will help in this level of battle... Well, whatever, at least he doesn't want to fight Obito right now, I don't really want to meet that delusional maniac again for the time being, one time was already one too many for Yuta's comfort...'

As Yuta thought more about it, he decided to let Shisui act on his own, if he lures out Obito and fights him in the end and wins, then it's great, and if he ended up killed, then Yuta would reset the time and try a different approach.

With how complicated the situation around the Uchiha clan turned out, Yuta was no longer as confident in solving it as before, but he believed that Shisui was capable to resolve all of it with his help, and with how smart and sharp Shisui really is, Yuta trusted in his judgment to make the right calls at the right time, more than he trusted himself.

Yuta remembered that in the original story Shisui had lost only because he didn't have the knowledge about how hateful, cunning and resourceful Danzo was, Shisui didn't suspect that Danzo, the Hokage's advisor and the Second-In-Command after the Hokage, would hold so much hatred towards the entire Uchiha clan and would be actually against the peaceful resolution and would attack Shisui after Shisui declared his intention to use Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku to stop the coup.

And Shisui especially didn't expect Danzo to be able to use Izanagi, the ultimate Uchiha genjutsu that costs a Sharingan to cast, and that was the final nail in the Shisui's coffin. Being cut off guard by Izanagi jutsu being used by non-Uchiha like Danzo, Shisui was hit by Danzo and one of his eyes got stolen, and although Shisui managed to escape after that, his plan to stop the coup with Kotoamatsukami was ruined.

Being unable to proceed as planned, as Yuta assumed was because he wasn't able to use Kotoamatsukami properly on Fugaku with just one eye, and being poisoned by the Danzo's subordinate from the Aburame clan during the brief fight with Danzo on top of that, Shisui chose to entrust his other eye to Itachi and commits suicide.

As of why Shisui commits suicide instead of looking for an antidote or to go straight to Hiruzen for help, Yuta doesn't know, but if he had to assume, it was to decrease the tensions between the clan and the village. The clan valued Shisui's strength and losing him will undeniably shake their resolve to proceed with the coup, effectively delaying it. Also, Danzo's hostility towards Shisui probably was also a part of that, since Shisui didn't want to escalate his conflict with Danzo any further, as that will likely compel the Uchiha to rebel even sooner.

Maybe Shisui was also hoping that his suicide would help Itachi to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan too, but Yuta wasn't sure about that.

It was a completely naive and overly optimistic move, in Yuta's opinion. To think that his death will change anything, and to think that Itachi will inherit his values and carries out what Shisui wasn't able to, it was too naive and too optimistic, and in the end it all went to shit, with Itachi being manipulated by Danzo and eventually pushed by Danzo's ultimatum to wipe out his entire clan and almost his entire family.

Yuta was sure that if Shisui knew how it would end, he would never entrust his Mangekyo Sharingan eye to Itachi, and he would never entrust all his hopes to Itachi either. And in this reality, Shisui would never do something so naive and optimistic, not if Yuta has anything to say about it.

This way of thinking was precisely what caused Yuta to worry and hesitate before approaching Itachi, since after all the knowledge about Itachi from the original story, Yuta wasn't able to trust Itachi one bit. But after observing Itachi for a while back in the academy, Yuta was able to quickly adjust the way he saw Itachi, as this young Itachi that was not the one that was darkened by the loss of his teammate and then by the loss of his best friend Shisui, it was a completely different person than the one Yuta remembers from the original story.

While Yuta was overthinking one thing after another as usual, Shisui had dispelled the genjutsu, and the world around Yuta returned to normal.

"Well, what do you think about the Sharingan Genjutsu?" Shisui asked casually.

"It's very powerful." Yuta replied as he snapped out of his thoughts after noticing the change and remembering the context of what's going on, as they are still in the secluded part of the training grounds and Obito, or more likely Zetsu are still watching them, "It would be extremely difficult to dispel on my own."

"Normally it is almost impossible to dispel by yourself, to do so you have to be extremely good at genjutsu yourself, and also you have to possess at least as much chakra as the caster of the genjutsu to have any shot at dispelling it." Shisui calmly explained, "Although, in almost all cases, the only way to escape from the Sharingan Genjutsu when you are already being caught in it – is to get your teammates to use a simple Release jutsu on you, the Sharingan Genjutsu is easy to dispel from the outside."

"I see." Yuta commented, "And even better way would be to never get caught in it in the first place."

"Good point. Now, the Sharingan Genjutsu aside, it's time for the new jutsu that I wanted to teach to you, it's the Body Flicker jutsu, it will be perfect for you, since as long as you keep your distance from the enemy and stay on guard, you will be able to use this jutsu to avoid almost any enemy attacks in time with it."

"Body Flicker?" Yuta blurted out feeling a little dejected, "Isn't that the standard jutsu that everybody learns at some point? I expected it to be something special..."

While Yuta complained in an informal way, he remembered that they are still being watched by Zetsu at the moment, but Yuta still used a casual and informal manner of speech as he always does with Shisui in private, and not the respectful one that he uses when there is someone's present. He did that because he wasn't sure of how long Zetsu had spied on them, and it was likely that Zetsu was already aware of how informal Yuta was towards Shisui in private, and changing things now will only complicate things.

"It will be a perfect fit for your combat style right now. It will serve you better than any other jutsu you could learn at the moment." Shisui calmly

"Well, if you say so, then sure. But what about some offensive and defensive jutsus?" Yuta said reluctantly.

"That will require an advanced chakra nature transformation training that will require a lot of time to master, it's not the right time for that, we will start the nature transformation training later, you should work on the basics first." Shisui patiently explained.

"Sigh, I understand." Yuta said as he thought, 'Basics again, huh, he sounds just like Manabu from the orphanage, I wonder how he is doing there, although Manabu doesn't remember that he was taught me basics of chakra control in a different timeline, but maybe I should go check on him later...'

"The Body Flicker jutsu concentrates a specifically molded chakra in your legs to move at the very fast speed, the hand seals for the jutsu are..." Shisui starts explaining the jutsu specifics, while Yuta listens attentively.

After showing the hand seals and explaining the chakra movements for the jutsu and the other detailed specifics, Shisui said, "While jutsu grants an extreme speed in a short bursts, it can't be used in combat, as the speed it grants is just too fast, and the normal eye can't keep up with the rapid changes of the environment, and you'll get disoriented for a short period of time after using the jutsu."

"And the Sharingan can keep up and fix this weakness?" Yuta asked.

"Yes. But still, even with Sharingan, not a lot of people could use the Body Flicker jutsu in combat effectively. The speed is just too great and not everyone could overcome the disorientation that comes with it. But it wasn't a problem in your case, since you always keep your distance in a fight and will use this jutsu primarily to dodge and avoid enemy's attacks. So, as long as you don't flicker too close to the enemy, you should have enough time to recover from the jutsu's disorientation side-effect fast enough."

"I see. This jutsu will be very useful for me indeed." Yuta said thoughtfully, as he finally fully understood the impact this jutsu will have on his overall combat capabilities.

--- AN ---

I probably should rethink my title-naming, it was "New Jutsu, pt 1-5" where the actual new jutsu was only at the end of pt 5...

Well, at least I finally went through all of the complicated details around the Uchiha clan problem in these chapters, so there won't be much of that kind of stuff in the later chapters anymore. But if you think that I have missed something important about it, please let me know in the comments, I always read them.
