Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Lost Legacy

Several weeks passed following the victory over Kiba.

Naruto had cemented a reputation as the "quiet but unexpectedly tough" kid. The Inuzuka boy no longer provoked him, merely snorting and turning away whenever they crossed paths. This arrangement suited Naruto perfectly: he was left alone, allowed to observe and learn in peace.

Today's lesson was dedicated to history. Usually, Uzumaki listened to Iruka-sensei with polite, detached attention, using Qi Concentration to memorize facts. However, today's topic forced him to tense up internally.

"...and, of course, Konoha was not founded by them alone," the teacher lectured, pointing to the kanji for 'Senju' and 'Uchiha' on the board. "Many noble clans joined the alliance: the Hyuga, the Akimichi, the Nara, the Yamanaka..."

Ino Yamanaka, sitting in the front row, raised her hand.

"Iruka-sensei! What about the Uzumaki?" She pointed a finger at Naruto. "He has the same surname. Were they important too?"

The entire class turned. Naruto didn't flinch, maintaining a calm expression, but he felt the flow of Qi within him stall for a heartbeat.

Iruka hesitated. The topic was a sore point for the village leadership.

"The Uzumaki..." The sensei coughed, his voice turning serious. "Yes, Ino. They were. The Uzumaki Clan was one of the greatest and most noble clans in history. They hailed from Uzushiogakure, the Village Hidden in the Whirlpool."

He drew a spiral symbol on the board.

"They were our closest, most loyal allies. The bonds between Konoha and Uzushio were incredibly strong. So strong that the Uzumaki symbol still adorns the flak jackets of our Chunin and Jonin as a sign of eternal friendship."

"And where are they now?" Sasuke asked, showing interest for the first time.

Iruka's face darkened.

"Their village was destroyed during the Second Great Shinobi War. They were feared too much. The Uzumaki Clan were... unsurpassed masters of Fuinjutsu. Sealing Techniques."

Fuinjutsu.

The word struck Naruto like a tolling bell. The symbols in the Sanctuary. The paper on the Fox's cage. The scrolls he couldn't read. This was his legacy.

Fuinjutsu? Ha! the Fox snarled in his head, his voice dripping with venom and interest. The technique of cowards who lock others in cages! No wonder they were slaughtered. They got what they deserved.

They were my family, Naruto replied coldly.

And yet, they created this cage. Funny, isn't it?

The Demon fell silent, but a mocking curiosity hung in the air.

Naruto listened to the teacher no longer. One thought pounded in his head: he needed to know.

...

The moment the bell rang, Uzumaki slipped out of the classroom. Ignoring the route to Ichiraku, he headed for the Academy library.

It was a quiet, dusty place neglected by most students. The elderly chunin librarian only glanced at the visitor.

"Want something?"

"History section, please."

"Straight down the hall," the man grunted, returning to his magazine.

Naruto immersed himself in the labyrinth of shelves, moving like a shadow among the books.

The "History of Clans" section. Much on the Uchiha, even more on the Senju. Finally, the surname he sought.

Uzumaki Clan. Status: [Destroyed].

He read about the destruction of Uzushio. About survivors scattered across the world. About red hair as a distinctive trait. About "incredible life force" and "mastery of seals." But not a single technique. Not a single scroll. Only dry facts.

Disappointment. He had expected to find... a key.

An hour of searching through tactics, military history, and geography yielded nothing.

Naruto was about to leave when his internal Qi reacted. His body responded to something nearby.

The most boring shelf. "General Disciplines: Calligraphy."

He approached the shelf. Most students considered calligraphy a waste of time, but thanks to his practice in the Sanctuary, Naruto knew the value of every stroke.

His gaze fell upon an old, dusty, abandoned-looking scroll.

Basics of Calligraphy for Beginners: Ink Flow Control.

Boring, the Fox commented.

Naruto took the scroll. It was heavier than it looked. He unrolled it right there in the aisle. Ordinary kanji: how to hold the brush, how to control breathing...

And then he saw it. In the margins, next to the instruction "focus the spirit in the tip of the brush," was a tiny, almost invisible symbol.

A swirl.

The Uzumaki mark.

Looking around to ensure no one was there, Naruto pressed a Qi-infused finger against the symbol.

The text didn't change, but something clicked in his consciousness. Understanding came instantly.

He looked at the kanji again. Now he wasn't reading about calligraphy; he was seeing between the lines.

"Ink Flow Control" meant "Qi Flow Control."

"Strengthening the Brush" meant "Strengthening the Bones."

"Applying Ink to Paper" meant "Saturating Flesh and Skin with Qi."

This wasn't a handwriting manual. It was a disguised guide to the next level of cultivation.

The Body Tempering Method.

The scroll explained: Foundation Establishment, which he had already completed, was merely the preparation of the channels. Now the real work began—strengthening the vessel itself.

Three stages: Early (Muscles and Tendons), Middle (Bones and Marrow), and Late (Internal Organs and Skin).

Naruto carefully rolled up his find and approached the librarian.

"Can I borrow this?"

The man looked at the scroll, then at the boy, and shrugged.

"'Basics of Calligraphy'? Seriously? Fine, take it. No one's opened it in ten years anyway."

Naruto bowed and walked out, clutching the treasure tightly.

He had found a path to power. And he immediately headed for the Sanctuary to begin the Early Stage of Body Tempering.
