Chapter 11 - Chapter 10: Noise Before the Bell

Jayjay POV

For the first time since I joined this school, I entered the classroom and didn't lock eyes with anyone.

No teacher.

Half the class wasn't even there yet.

I walked in quietly, dropped my bag, and sat.

Peace.

Then footsteps.

Keifer walked in with the same two guys from earlier and took his seat like nothing happened.

A moment later, his voice broke the silence.

"Hey."

I didn't look up.

"Say thank you."

I glanced at him slowly. "For what?"

"For helping you settle that mess outside."

I scoffed. "I didn't ask for help."

He leaned back. "They were too loud. I couldn't sleep properly."

I stared at him. "That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard."

He smirked. "It's true. You're annoying."

I rolled my eyes. "And you're arrogant."

The red-haired guy laughed. "Yeah, Keifer, you're right. She really has a sharp mouth."

I turned to him. "And who are you?"

The guy I bumped into earlier spoke. "That's Yuri Hanamichi."

Yuri grinned. "Why? Were you born angry, or are you a rooster?"

A few boys burst out laughing.

"Wow," I said. "And who are you?"

He pointed at himself. "Me? David. David for short."

"Whatever," I muttered.

My phone.

Still on the desk.

I sighed and picked it up.

I grabbed my bag and stood up.

Just as I reached the door—

"WAIT!"

Someone came rushing in, almost tripping over a chair.

It was Drew.

Breathing hard. Hair messy.

He stopped in the middle of the classroom, hands on his knees.

"Guys," he said between breaths, "gym practice. Now. Anyone on the sports list—go to the gym."

Groans filled the room.

Some boys cheered.

Felix clapped his hands. "You heard him. Move."

Ci-n turned to me. "Jayjay, do you have gym clothes?"

I nodded. "Yeah. In my bag."

"Good," he said. "Change and go."

"Okay."

I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked out, not even looking back.

The gym was loud.

Everyone was already there.

Whistles. Echoes. Shoes squeaking.

We started with warm-ups.

Stretching. Running. Jumping.

I tried to focus.

Then they walked in.

Ella.

Mica.

Aries.

Kiko.

Michael.

Diana.

Not Freya.

I froze mid-stretch.

"Oh God," I muttered under my breath.

How am I supposed to survive today?
