Chapter 16 - Fight

Feyra sprinted towards the horned wolf and attacked it. Thanks to its horn it was able to deflect a lot of attacks from Feyra and also attacked viciously.

I don't want to end up on that horn... Though it likely wouldn't do much to me.

Feyra evaded the attacks and slashed at the wolf's leg but it also evaded her attacks. She knew that these wolves were known for being particularly hard to fight but that wouldn't change the outcome Feyra had in mind. She would defeat it no matter the cost.

The wolf stood on two legs and angled his head down to aim for Feyra with its horn.

Feyra jumped to the side avoiding the horn and slashing again at its legs. This time a scratch appeared and the wolf seemed to feel the pain.

Yes! I just need to continue. Just you wait...

She attacked the horned wolf further on its legs and scratched it a few times. The sword wasn't the best and Feyra could feel that.

It's not great... But the sword can still do damage. If I could only injure one of its legs more...

Feyra thought for a moment but at that time the wolf swirled around and hit her with its tail against a tree.

Ouch... Damn it... That hurts... Truly... I need to focus... But it also gets so dark... I can hardly see and the pain in my back doesn't subside.

Feyra was sitting on the ground holding her belly as she felt the pain shoot through her whole body.

The horned wolf came nearer and aimed at her before breaking into a sprint and trying to impale her.

Feyra moved out of the way luckily in time but now she was lying on the ground and the wolf was holding her down. It opened its mouth and showed its teeth before trying to bite Feyra.

Feyra moved to the side as much as she could but in the end she still got bit in her left shoulder.

No! Aaaaaaah! This can't be... I'll... Yeah what will I do? Yes... I'll defeat it!

Feyra's thoughts spiraled until she managed to push away the wolf realising she had never used her full strength.

I'm still thinking I'm merely a God? No... I'm no longer a God but something far more powerful.

"Yes... I am a Fallen Angel!", she cried out before finally starting to concentrate and slashing at the wolf over and over again.

The cuts went deeper and showed more effect but it was still not enough. The wolf used its horn to attack without pause and even whirled Feyra in the sky before slamming her down into the ground.

Feyra didn't seem to mind the pain anymore with the background of her being a Fallen Angel.

Pain? What is that?

She stood up again and again, repeating her movements until the sword broke clashing with the wolf's horn.

Now the wolf felt like it had an opportunity and charged forward.

Feyra decided in that moment what she could use but for that she took off her top of the leather armour first before she showed her wings.

The wolf seemed to shortly back off and wait what its opponent was doing but soon charged towards Feyra again.

She jumped over the wolf and started to fly. In the air the wolf was unable to hit her and she had time to prepare the final attack she had held back the whole time.

I don't like using it... It always causes so much destruction but for you I guess I have no other choice.

A small stone glowing red from some cracks appeared in her left hand, slightly floating above it. Feyra looked at it before she let it slip towards the wolf where it exploded upon impact.

A bright light and a thunderous sound could be heard. The shockwave traveled luckily only to the hill.

Feyra landed back on the ground and looked at the fields. At least what she could see. Thanks to the moon she could see more than usual but in the end Feyra couldn't fully make out the full extend of the damage.

She decided to return to the village and grabbed the broken sword as well as her leather armour which had a bite mark on it and went the hill back up.

Feyra wouldn't have needed to walk but even if she had her wings for this moment out she still felt more like walking.

"Good morning!", Mary said looking at Feyra who had a few scratches on her body that had already healed mostly.

"Good morning. How late is it?", Feyra asked holding her left shoulder and noticing she hadn't treated the bite mark the day before.

"It's just eight in the morning. It's not too late yet. The battle must've been rough. Here. I brought some water for you and some medicine for that wound on your shoulder.", she said and looked behind Feyra.

"Is there something behind me?", Feyra asked looking into the stunned face of Mary.

"Are those... Your wings?"

Feyra looked behind her and saw that she hadn't hid her wings before sleeping as she had been too exhausted.

"Yes those are my wings."

"They're pretty! Can I look at them a little more?"

"Do as you please. Though I'm sorry to say that your linen clothes have two holes now.", Feyra said still a bit exhausted.

Mary laughed and looked at the wings and the holes in the clothes.

"That's something I can fix. Should I sew around them so the holes can stay for your wings?", she asked looking at the wings and Feyra.

"If that's possible it would be great.", Feyra answered and with that she changed back into her oversized linen clothes while Mary was sewing her other shirt.

Feyra decided to tell the farmers how the battle had went in the meantime and went as fast as she could to their usual gathering place.

"Oi! You're back! How did it go?", a farmer who had previously not been there asked with an accent.

"I defeated the monster. Though... I did cause a little bit of destruction. I'm very sorry about the loss you'll make.", she said bowing down to apologise.

"No need to worry. With that monster around we wouldn't have gained much anyway. You came at the right time like an Angel down to earth.", another farmer said.

"An Angel? More like a Fallen Angel!", a farmer protested at the previous farmer's words.

"No! You got it all wrong! The Lord wielding fire doesn't send Angels or Fallen Angels! They come of their own volition to help! Oh Lord wielding fire thank you.", the eccentric farmer said holding his hands towards the sky.

Feyra nodded and they went to the fields together to assess the damage. In the middle was a slight crater that had been caused by the explosion but else the fields looked pretty normal. Occasionally there were a few marks left behind by the battle but the majority of the plants had survived.

Most farmers cheered seeing their fields being safe and sound again and put their arms around Feyra to drag her back and into the bar.

The bar owner looked at the group and seemed puzzled seeing all the farmers again who had previously said they likely wouldn't be able to visit the whole year because of the plants not growing.

"What is going on!?", he asked in a high voice. The bar owner had sunken in cheeks and seemed to get on in age already.

"The Lord wielding fire and this Fallen Angel have helped us resolve our trouble! We're here to celebrate!

"Oh Lord wielding fire we will do our best this year to improve ourselves. Then we can truly call ourselves followers of thee.", the eccentric farmer explained and soon the beer and other beverages were on the table.

Feyra opted for a simple glass of water and also something simple to eat.

Around noon the farmers went back to work after the celebration and Feyra went back to Mary who gave her the shirt.

"I made it a little nicer than it was and now the holes should be perfect.", she said and Feyra looked at it nodding and smiling.

"Thank you."

"What are you going to do next? We also need to pay you still. Go rest a bit and come to the plaza then. We have to discuss your payment.", Mary said and waved her off to rest.

On the plaza all the farmers were gathered and every child was also present. Feyra arrived and everyone looked at her cheering.

"You did well.", Greyl said coming over as the first person. "I may be good at my craft but hearing how the battle turned out I'm sadly unable to make a sword good enough to befit your strength."

"I understand. For now I barely had to fight any monsters so there is no need for a sword as of now.", Feyra answered.

"Then what can we pay you with?", Mary asked and everyone else nodded at her question. Margarita was the only one who seemed deep in thought.

"Do you have any books about medical knowledge, architecture or something similar?"

Everyone looked at each other but ultimately everyone shook their heads. "Sadly we don't.", Mary said and came up with an idea that she whispered into Margarita's ear.

"You want what?", she asked surprised. "Do you know how much that is!?"

"I know but it's only fitting for having accomplished such a great task. This was no ordinary monster after all. It was a horned wolf! And the fields also have taken minimal damage.", Mary said and Margarita walked off a little unwillingly to get what Mary had asked for.

A while later she came back with a bag full of coins. "These are 10.000 coins for helping us. Thank you again.", Margarita said and handed the bag over to Feyra.

"10.000 coins!? This wouldn't be necessary.", Feyra tried to protest but everyone, including the children, was insisting she should take it.

"If you already gave me that much I also have to offer my help. If you ever need something then write a letter. Tell the letter pigeon it should look for a peculiar traveler with leather armour and a chainmail skirt and a peculiar hair colour."

"We will remember your offer.", Mary said. "Will you be staying this night still?"

Feyra nodded and the children cheered running towards her.

"Play with us!"

Feyra accepted their request and went off to play with them until evening.

The next day she stood up just as early and packed everything she had. Now she also had some spare clothes as change and some she could use when she wanted to fly a bit.

"It's quite warm outside so perhaps it's best if you dress more appropriate to the weather.", Mary said before Feyra waved goodbye and went further on the path to the Capital.

Mary had said if I follow this path for ten days I should arrive in the Capital. At least that's what she said roundabout. With the map I'm a little safer.

A few days passed and Feyra looked at the map once again which path of the fork in the road she should take.

The right one should lead to a water source while the left one would let her continue to the Capital.

In these days Feyra had found some stone mushrooms again and was far too excited to cook them again which is why she was debating in her mind which path to take.

In the end she decided to rest for a while before she would continue. In that time she could also get some water and prepare a mushroom soup.

Feyra decided this was the best idea and fetched some water to prepare the soup like last time.

I wonder how these three are doing... Mattes, Flore and Najenda had been in the village before I arrived. I don't even know where they wanted to go after the village.

She thought back on the people she had met and wondered about them. In just that moment a feather fell down before Feyra and she looked to her left side where she saw a letter pigeon that had a letter attached to it.
