🔹 INTERLUDE — The System Reacts
Silence ruled the chamber.
A vast circular room, buried deep beneath layers of reinforced structure, far removed from any battlefield. The walls were smooth, seamless, etched with faint geometric patterns that pulsed slowly, like a dormant nervous system.
At the center stood a long table of dark material, neither metal nor stone. Around it, figures took shape—some seated, some standing, others only partially present, their forms blurred or incomplete.
The Association had convened.
A series of symbols ignited above the table, rotating slowly.
FIRST FLOOR — ANOMALY DETECTED
A low murmur rippled through the room.
One figure leaned forward, fingers steepled.
— The First Floor… breached?
Another voice followed, colder.
— Not breached.— Activated.
A projection shifted. Data streams cascaded downward—combat signatures, pressure spikes, resonance anomalies.
Then—
A sudden spike.
The room fell silent.
UNCLASSIFIED ELEMENTAL MANIFESTATIONSUBJECT: SAEKOSTATUS: PARTIAL AWAKENING
One of the seated figures scoffed.
— Already? On the First Floor?
Another remained silent.
At the head of the table, a presence sat apart from the others.
Still.
Unmoving.
His symbol glowed brighter than the rest.
— The Zero is moving faster than predicted, a voice said carefully.— And the humans around him are adapting.
A faint vibration passed through the room.
— That is not adaptation.
All eyes turned.
The speaker did not raise his voice.
He did not need to.
— That is contamination.
A second projection appeared.
TEN #1 — STATUS: ENGAGED
A sharp intake of breath.
— Gōrin no Ō is taking interest?
— He's smiling, another whispered.
The figure at the head of the table rose slowly.
— Then observe.
His symbol pulsed.
— Let the First test them.
— And if they survive?
The answer came without hesitation.
— Then the system will require… correction.
The lights dimmed.
Far below—
The First Floor shook.
The Weight That Refuses to Break
The chamber sealed shut with a sound like a tomb closing.
Massive steel plates slid into place around the circular arena, locking with deep, resonant booms that echoed endlessly. The vibrations traveled through the floor, into Jun's bones, into his chest.
He stood alone.
Across from him—
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ.
The King of Foundations towered over the arena, his presence bending the air around him. He did not rush. He did not posture.
He simply stood.
And the weight increased.
Jun's knees bent involuntarily, muscles screaming as the pressure pressed down on him from every direction. It wasn't gravity.
It was authority.
Jun clenched his fists, teeth grinding as sweat poured down his face.
— …So this is it… he muttered.
Behind him, at the edge of the sealed chamber, Kaito struggled against the invisible force pinning him in place. His body shook violently, veins standing out against his skin.
— Jun…!
Jun didn't turn.
— Don't.
Kaito froze.
Jun took a step forward.
The floor cracked beneath his foot.
Pain exploded up his leg, but he didn't stop.
Another step.
Then another.
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ tilted his head slightly.
"You advance."
Jun forced a breath into his lungs.
— Someone has to.
The pressure doubled.
Jun dropped to one knee, a sharp cry tearing from his throat as the floor dented beneath him. Blood trickled from his nose, splashing onto the metal.
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ took a single step.
The arena shook violently.
"You are human."
Jun looked up, eyes burning.
— Yeah.
He pushed himself up.
His muscles trembled violently, threatening to tear apart under the strain. Every instinct screamed at him to stop.
He ignored it.
— That's exactly why I'm here.
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ raised one hand.
The air compressed.
Jun was slammed backward, skidding across the floor until his back struck a steel pillar. The impact drove the breath from his lungs in a broken gasp.
Pain flared through his spine.
He coughed, blood staining his lips.
The Ten approached slowly.
"You stand before a Ten.""Do you understand the weight of that choice?"
Jun laughed weakly.
— Not really.
He pushed himself upright again, hands shaking as he wiped blood from his mouth.
— But I understand something else.
The Ten stopped.
Jun's hand slipped into his jacket pocket.
His fingers brushed against the object the Ten #5 had placed there earlier.
It was warm.
Pulsing faintly.
Jun clenched it.
— I won't let him fight alone anymore.
The pressure surged again.
Jun screamed as his body was forced downward—but this time, something answered.
A sharp crack echoed through the arena.
The floor beneath Jun's feet fractured outward in a spiderweb pattern.
The pressure wavered.
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ's presence sharpened.
"Oh?"
Jun inhaled deeply.
For a brief moment, the pain faded.
His heartbeat synchronized with the vibration of the floor.
He stepped forward.
And this time—
The floor did not resist.
It yielded.
Jun raised his fists.
No weapon.
No armor.
Just flesh, bone, and will.
— I don't need to beat you, Jun said quietly.— I just need to stand.
GĹŤrin no ĹŚ's lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile.
"Then stand."
The weight came crashing down.
And the battle for the First Floor truly began.
