Chapter 20 - Chapter 21 The Heroes Arrive

The thick fog blanketed Tokyo like a living shroud, choking the city in unnatural silence. Streetlights flickered weakly through the haze, casting long, ghostly shadows. Sirens wailed in the distance—muted, directionless—while abandoned cars sat with doors ajar, their owners long fled or worse.

Daniel stood on the villa's balcony, overlooking the chaos his fog had unleashed. The air smelled of damp concrete, ozone, and faint smoke from distant fires. His body thrummed with restored power, the Ring of Dominion warm against his finger. Inside it, Lillymon and the newly broken Angewomon rested—both exhausted, both his.

A low rumble echoed from below. Daniel's crimson eyes narrowed.

"They're here."

From the swirling mist emerged the seven chosen warriors—Taichi leading, Agumon at his side, the rest fanned out behind. Their expressions were grim, determined. The fog parted slightly around them, as if the Crests' light repelled it.

"MYOTISMON!" Taichi shouted, voice cutting through the haze. "We know you're holding Lillymon and Angewomon! Release them—now!"

Daniel stepped to the railing, cape billowing dramatically. A slow, mocking smile spread across his face.

"You're late. They've already... adjusted to their new roles."

Mimi's eyes blazed with fury. "Lillymon! Where is she?!"

Hikari stood beside her, the Crest of Light glowing softly at her neck. Her face was pale but resolute. "We won't let you hurt them—or anyone else."

Daniel laughed—a low, chilling sound that echoed unnaturally through the fog.

"You think you can challenge me here? In my domain?"

He raised a hand. The fog surged, thickening around the group, cutting off escape routes. From the shadows of the villa emerged his forces—Phantomon drifting like specters, MetalSeadramon coiling in the mist, SkullMeramon's flames flickering red through the haze.

"Attack!"

The battle erupted.

Agumon roared—"Agumon digivolve to Greymon! Greymon digivolve to MetalGreymon!"

MetalGreymon charged, missiles launching from his chest—"Ultimate Destroyer!"

The shark-shaped projectiles screamed toward the villa. Daniel didn't flinch. "Night Raid!"

A black swarm of bats exploded outward, intercepting the missiles mid-air. Explosions bloomed in the fog, lighting up the night in bursts of orange and black.

WereGarurumon leaped high—"Caesar Claw!"

His claws slashed toward Daniel in a crimson arc. Daniel met him mid-air, blood whip cracking like thunder. The two collided—whip against claw—sparks flying as they traded blows in a blur of motion.

Sora's Biyomon evolved to Birdramon, then Garudamon—"Shadow Wing Slash!"

The vacuum blade sliced through the fog toward Daniel. He twisted, letting it graze his cape, tearing a strip of fabric. "Not bad... but predictable."

Tentomon became Kabuterimon, then MegaKabuterimon—"Mega Horn Cannon!"

The red energy blast roared forward. Daniel redirected it with a psychic flick—sending it crashing into a nearby building, concrete exploding in a shower of debris.

Gomamon evolved to Ikkakumon, then Zudomon—"Heavy Hammer Spark!"

The massive hammer swung down. Daniel dodged, whip lashing out to wrap around Zudomon's arm, yanking him off-balance. "Pathetic."

Patamon—now Angemon—flew high—"Heaven's Fist!"

The beam of holy light lanced toward Daniel. This time, he met it head-on—bats forming a dark shield that absorbed the light, though smoke rose from the impact. His light resistance held—barely.

Taichi clenched his fist. "Everyone—together!"

The seven Digimon attacked in unison—missiles, claws, flames, hammers, beams converging on Daniel in a storm of power.

Daniel's eyes glowed red. "Enough."

He thrust both hands forward. Twin blood whips extended—longer, thicker, pulsing with dark energy. They lashed out in wide arcs, striking every attack at once. Explosions rocked the villa grounds—energy clashing in blinding flashes.

When the light cleared, Daniel stood unscathed. His forces pressed forward, pinning the Digimon back.

"You're outmatched," Daniel said calmly. "But I admire your persistence."

He snapped his fingers. From the villa's upper windows, two figures emerged—Lillymon and Angewomon, both bound in crimson whips, bodies marked with faint welts and glistening with sweat. Lillymon's eyes were dazed, submissive; Angewomon's burned with conflicted fury, but her wings drooped, strength sapped.

Mimi cried out—"Lillymon!"

Hikari stepped forward, light flaring from her Crest. "Let them go!"

Daniel's smile widened. "Come and take them—if you can."

The final battle began.

MetalGreymon charged again—only for Daniel to meet him with a whip strike that sent him crashing into the fog. WereGarurumon leaped—Daniel caught him mid-air, slamming him to the ground. Garudamon's wings slashed—Daniel dodged, countering with a psychic blast that grounded her.

Angemon fired another beam—Daniel redirected it back, forcing Angemon to block his own attack.

The chosen warriors fought desperately, but Daniel's power—bolstered by dual cultivation and restored soul energy—was overwhelming.

He moved like a shadow—whips dancing, bats swarming, psychics deflecting every blow. One by one, the Digimon were worn down—forced back, exhausted, some reverting from sheer fatigue.

Taichi stood panting, fists clenched. "We won't give up!"

Daniel hovered above them, wings of darkness spreading. "You already have."

He raised a hand—the whips binding Lillymon and Angewomon tightened. Both cried out—Lillymon in pain, Angewomon in rage.

"Last chance," Daniel said softly. "Leave... or watch them break completely."

Hikari's Crest blazed brighter. "No."

She stepped forward—light pouring from her. "I won't let you hurt them!"

The Crest's power surged—pushing back the fog, illuminating the battlefield. Daniel narrowed his eyes.

"Interesting..."

The standoff hung in the balance. One move could decide everything.

But Daniel only smiled wider.

"Then come—try to save them."

The heroes charged.

The night exploded into battle once more.
