Chapter 2 - Hatsu

Mitene Union — NLG

Near a stream by a waterfall, there were a boy and a girl.

While the boy stared at his reflection in the water with a perplexed expression, the girl was panting; one hand clutched her chest while the other covered her mouth.

"What the hell? Why am I in this form!?"

Erick's memories were hazy, but one thing was certain: before dying, he had not been a child.

His only theory was simple. By common knowledge, Casters tended to be physically frail, so his Saint Graph had likely adapted him into a form more compatible with the class.

Setting that doubt aside, Erick began to assess the situation. Upon being summoned, certain knowledge had been implanted into his mind—a condensed overview of what was considered "common knowledge" in that world.

And, to be honest, Erick didn't think his situation was particularly good.

Although he had become a Servant, his parameters were extremely disappointing. His only real asset was the skill [Nen (Rank C-)]. Thanks to it, he didn't need training to grasp Nen's basic principles; he could control it instinctively, without technique or formal refinement. Even so, he didn't know his Nen category, nor had he developed a Hatsu.

"But seriously… what are the odds that the first world I'd see would be the very origin of my ability…?"

Erick caught a fleeting glimpse of that strange space that had existed before everything. Those luminous orbs were worlds—and among that infinite number, ending up in this one was absurdly unlikely.

As Erick drifted through his thoughts, Ponzu finally began to calm down.

She replayed the recent events hundreds of times, unable to stop herself from feeling incredibly lucky—and confused. When she summoned Erick, she had instinctively received knowledge about Command Seals, Heroic Spirits, and the Holy Grail War.

Even so, Ponzu knew one thing for certain: Erick was an irregularity.

That world had no Throne of Heroes, and its dominant power was Nen. Magic simply did not exist.

Still, Ponzu chose to accept the situation as a blessing. If not for that anomaly, she would already be dead.

Watching her distracted Servant stare at his own reflection, Ponzu decided to check something. Activating her Master's clairvoyance, a translucent blue screen appeared before her.

A primitive manifestation of Nen that crystallizes the user's will into the surrounding space, converting it into a field where subtle laws of aura take precedence over reality.

Self-Replenishment (Rank B)

As long as the summoned entity's mission lacks a defined conclusion, the spiritual core remains in causal suspension, continuously regenerating Nen and mana.

Nen (Rank C–)

"These parameters are… garbage," Ponzu thought.

Seconds later, she felt guilty for thinking that about her savior. Still, she couldn't suppress a trace of disappointment. All of Erick's parameters were low, and he didn't even possess a Noble Phantasm.

From the knowledge she had received, a Noble Phantasm—even at the lowest rank—was absurdly powerful, capable of deciding a battle in seconds. If Erick had one, even a weak one, she would feel confident enough to return and use a Command Seal to force him to attack the Chimera Ant base.

She sighed.

Noticing Ponzu's sigh, Erick tilted his head slightly, concern on his face.

"Master, are you all right? Your legs are still injured. We need to find a doctor to remove the bullets and treat your wounds."

Ponzu had completely forgotten about that. She had been so still that she hadn't felt the pain for a while. Once reminded, her vision began to spin. The last thing she saw was Erick rushing toward her, his face filled with worry.

Erick panicked when Ponzu suddenly fainted. It was probably blood loss. If her wounds weren't treated soon, they could become infected—and kill her.

"Given the circumstances… I don't have much of a choice."

Erick began controlling his Nen, attempting to develop his first ability—a reinforcement technique. He didn't know his Nen category; he could only hope it was Enhancement, or something close to it.

After several moments of effort, he succeeded. Despite his inexperience, the ability took shape.

---

Sacred Palm

Type: Enhancement

Uses Enhancement Nen to accelerate the target's cellular regeneration.

This technique cannot be used on the user themselves, and during the healing process, the user experiences the treated injuries as "phantom pain."

---

Several days passed. Ponzu remained unconscious; shock and blood loss were the primary causes.

During that time, Erick didn't stay idle. He familiarized himself with his Nen and used Territory Creation to establish a safe area. If an invasion occurred, he would at least have a favorable environment to protect both himself and Ponzu.

An unexpected effect was that [Territory Creation (Rank E-)] enhanced his training process, making it easier to develop offensive Hatsu. It was also during this period that he discovered his Nen category: Transmutation.

Erick theorized that his Nen affinity was influenced by his Servant class. Although he was a Transmuter, he possessed equal affinity with Conjuration due to [Item Construction (Rank C)]. If that skill were a few ranks higher, he would be capable of materializing weapons with stronger effects and fewer restrictions.

In the meantime, he developed an ability that combined Conjuration and Transmutation.

---

Midnight Blade

Category: Conjuration / Transmutation

The user conjures a sword without a physical blade. By applying Shu, an extremely condensed black aura blade extends from the hilt, existing only as long as it is continuously supplied with Nen.

The blade does not cut through brute force, but through the user's directed intent, allowing it to pass through anything that is visible or clearly perceived, regardless of material or defensive Nen.

Maintaining the blade continuously consumes Nen, and each swing requires a variable amount of aura depending on the target. Cutting an iron alloy, for example, consumes far more Nen than cutting a simple sheet of paper.

---

Erick intended to create a second Nen ability, but decided to leave that for later. Developing a Hatsu required time, effort, and a massive headache. For now, it was better to focus on what he already had.

"Hm…"

Still unconscious, Ponzu let out a soft groan as her eyes slowly opened.

"I see you're awake… here, drink some water. You haven't eaten in days."

Still disoriented, Ponzu took the improvised bamboo cup and drank. Then Erick handed her a leaf holding pieces of meat and herbs.

"Eat this. You were unconscious for days. I healed you with my ability, but it can't restore lost nutrients."

"Thank you…"

Ponzu vaguely remembered fainting. Erick had likely carried her and taken care of her the entire time.

An awkward silence followed. Ponzu didn't know how to start the conversation, and Erick didn't know how to approach her.

"Well… what's our next move? Do we run, or do we fight those abominations?"

At the mention of the creatures, Ponzu turned pale. Still, she couldn't allow herself to be weak. She needed revenge against the abominations that had killed her companions.

"First, we need to contact the Hunter Association. We don't know how much information they have. After that, we should formulate an attack plan. We don't know how many bases those Ants have, but we know of one—if it hasn't been discovered yet, that could be vital to the operation."

"All right, but how do you plan to contact them? Over the past few days, I've surveyed the surroundings. We're at least eighty kilometers away from any area with intelligent life."

Ponzu thought for a few seconds before making a bold decision.

"We're going to the destroyed village. I'm sure a Hunter received my message and went to investigate. We might be able to regroup nearby."
