Jay's POV
When the morning alarm rang, my eyes were swollen. I hadn't slept all night. Keifer's lips wouldn't leave my mind. That stupid kiss… It was both annoying and… for some reason, it warmed me up inside. I looked in the mirror, my cheeks still looked slightly pink. "Stupid Jay, pull yourself together," I muttered. Today Cyrus was coming. He was going to be placed in Section D. And Dolay's message was still on my phone.
On the way to school, my heart felt like it was going to jump out. As soon as I entered the classroom, whispers started. Everyone was looking at me. Some were smiling, some were imitating "ooo". Damn it, why did he have to do something like that?
Keifer was already sitting at his desk. Our eyes met. For a moment, time seemed to stop. A slight smirk appeared on Keifer's lips, but his eyes were serious. I immediately turned my head away and sat down. My heart was beating like crazy.
The bell rang, but no one was focusing on the lesson. Yuri whispered from behind:
Yuri: Jay, did something happen yesterday?
Drew laughed. "I think you should thank Keifer. The first kiss was free."
I put my head on the desk. "Shut up please… Cyrus is coming today. I have to deal with him."
Right then the door opened. The principal's assistant came in.
Principal's assistant: "Section E students, please pay attention. Today our guest student Cyrus Ramirez is joining us. He will be placed in Section D, but today he will tour all classes for introductions."
Everyone looked at me. Keifer stood up, arms crossed.
Keifer: "Introductions? Let him come. We're ready."
During the break, Cyrus appeared in the hallway. He was still a bit pale, but his eyes were full of revenge. That bastard was smiling. Cyrus walked straight toward me.
Cyrus: How are you Jay Jay, it's been a long time, want to talk?
My voice didn't shake. I stood tall.
Jay: I have nothing to talk to you about.
Cyrus laughed. "Of course you do… for example, do you want me to remind you what you did to me, or should I do the same things to you? Don't forget, the school administration promised me. If you make one more mistake, you're out."
Keifer suddenly stepped between us. He stood in front of Cyrus.
Keifer: "If you touch her, I'll put you back in the hospital. Got it?"
Cyrus: What, is this the guy who took my place?
Jay: He's not my boyfri-
Keifer: Yes, is there a problem?
Cyrus: Be careful, he'll fool you later too… then he'll put you in the hospital.
Keifer: Fuck off.
Suddenly he punched Cyrus. The teacher immediately came and separated them.
After the teacher separated us, the hallway suddenly went quiet. Everyone was looking at us, whispers increased. Keifer's fist was still in the air, his breathing fast. Cyrus's lip was bleeding, but he was still smirking. The teacher grabbed Keifer's arm and pulled him.
Teacher: "Mr. Watson, straight to the guidance office! Mr. Ramirez, you go to the nurse. Jasper Jean Mariano, follow Keifer!"
Keifer gave me one last look – there was still anger in his eyes, but underneath something else… regret? Or determination? I didn't know. I just nodded, like "I'm fine."
While walking to the guidance office, my heart was pounding in my ears. Cyrus's words were in my mind: "He'll fool you later… then he'll put you in the hospital." Keifer's punch… At that moment something stirred inside me. Fear? Admiration? Or… both?
In the guidance office, the principal was waiting for us. Keifer was already sitting on the chair, arms crossed. Cyrus was at the nurse, Dolay was waiting outside. The principal turned to me.
Principal: "Jasper… What happened today is unacceptable. Cyrus is a guest student, there's a sensitive situation regarding your past. And Keifer… a student like you using violence… This will go to the disciplinary board."
Keifer leaned forward, his voice ice-cold.
Keifer: "That bastard threatened Jay. I did it to stop him. If he comes near again… I'll do it again."
The principal sighed. "Keifer, there is no violence in this school. Understood? Jasper, you too… Cyrus will stay here for one week. If there is any incident, both of you will be held responsible."
I nodded, couldn't speak. I looked at Keifer. He was looking at me too. Our eyes met. At that moment… it felt like only the two of us were in the room.
Principal: "Now leave. And please… no more of this."
Yuri's voice came.
Yuri: "Hey guys! Cyrus's dad is outside. Come on out, chaos is starting!"
Keifer squeezed my hand.
Keifer: "Are you ready?"
I was shocked, this idiot must be crazy, I just nodded to him.
When we went out to the courtyard, Cyrus's dad was getting out of the car. He had a phone in his hand, Keifer's punch was clearly visible. Cyrus was whispering something to his dad. The principal came running.
But Keifer didn't let go of my hand. He said loudly:
"Jay is mine. And no one can touch her. Got it?"
Whose am I? I'm humiliating myself, this is definitely embarrassing, I'm going to see this guy.
Everyone went silent. Aries was giving me angry looks, I tried to pull my hand from Keifer but he held it even tighter. God help me.
Cyrus's dad looked at us, then smiled – a cold smile.
Cyrus's dad: "Look at that… Then the school's sponsorship will be discussed. And your girl… she will be discussed too."
What? Everyone is crazy and everyone thinks I belong to him.
Cyrus's dad's cold smile made me sick. "Your girl," he said. As if I was Keifer's dog. Everyone's eyes were on us, phones were out, whispers increased. Aries's looks were like knives in my back. I tried to pull my hand from Keifer but he held it even tighter.
Jay: (through my teeth) Let go of my hand, idiot. Everyone is watching, I'm humiliating myself.
Keifer looked at me sideways, his voice low and threatening.
Keifer: "The one who's humiliating is not you, it's those bastards. And yes, you're mine. Let everyone hear it so no one approaches you again."
I cursed inside. "I'm not yours, nor am I anything of yours, I'm nothing to you," I wanted to scream, but no sound came out.
