Chapter 9 - 9 - First Battle

Fighting a Zombie for the first time.

Arthur felt extremely nervous.

After all, even though he had Newbie Protection.

He would still get injured if he was supposed to.

And it would still hurt if it was supposed to.

Especially if he was unlucky enough to be bitten, he would definitely be infected.

All his previous plans would be declared a failure!

It wasn't that he couldn't rely on the Senior for everything.

But he knew he needed this battle.

This was a baptism.

A combat baptism to transform himself from the Shut-in who previously just drifted through life, into a true Reincarnator.

Relying solely on the protection of others or external forces would not allow him to go far.

He already possessed such a massive innate advantage.

He absolutely did not want his future to be spent merely picking up scraps from dungeons inside a "Safe Zone."

That would be too pathetic!

He was very greedy.

He wanted everything!

Since that was the case.

Then he must become stronger!

He must constantly maintain the desire to become stronger!

This first battle was something he absolutely could not run away from!

Not to mention, he had already prepared so many back-up plans in advance.

And he had the Senior guarding him from the side.

If he didn't even have the guts to fight a mere Zombie under these conditions...

Could he even call himself a man?

Such a man wouldn't be worthy of conquering the Senior at all!

Let alone seeing his future wives!

It seemed as though he was infected by his own conviction.

As he raised the crowbar, he felt an intense desire for battle.

At the same time.

The Senior behind him also caught a familiar scent from the man in front of her.

It was the thirst for battle, the craving for slaughter!

As it turned out...

They were actually the same kind of people!

While Arthur let out a low growl,

He didn't wait any longer and charged directly in front of the Zombie.

The Zombies he saw in reality were very strong and didn't have stiff movements like in the anime.

However, as monsters acting purely on instinct, its means of attack were still quite simple.

When the Zombie reached out to grab Arthur, he suddenly dodged to the side.

While evading the Zombie's attack, he drove the crowbar into its flank.

Puff!

The dull sound of the sharp tip entering flesh rang out, but Arthur's pupils suddenly constricted.

Without even having time to take a second look, he raised a foot and kicked its stomach.

"Awoo!!"

A new Zombie appeared!

It seemed it had been waiting behind a stone pillar by the corridor just now.

As a result, it was attracted by the sound of their fighting.

A mangled, skeletal claw barely missed Arthur's forehead.

It only ended up slicing off a few strands of his hair.

Without him noticing, the Senior was already on standby at his side.

What a reliable woman!

This Zombie was kicked directly in front of her.

Before it could even get up, Saeko kicked it over.

Then she stepped forward, pinning its chest with her foot so it couldn't rise.

"I'm sorry."

Looking at the mangled face of the junior she once knew on the ground, Saeko Busujima raised her wooden sword with a final trace of pity.

"I might already have someone I like..."

The wooden sword fell like a flash of lightning.

The Zombie on the ground had its head smashed.

Its half-raised hands fell heavily back to the ground.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield.

The Zombie whose sneak attack Arthur had dodged was now charging forward again.

Arthur, who had just stabilized himself, was only now facing a true crisis.

The crowbar had already left his hand and was still embedded in the body of the previous Zombie.

And this Zombie's blood-soaked hands were already reaching out in front of him.

Once caught, it would be almost impossible to break free with his current strength.

Under the threat of death, Arthur did not panic.

At this moment, his brain was incredibly clear!

Countless thoughts flashed by.

External objects, the Zombie's movements, Ellen's nervous shouts from behind... everything.

It all seemed to slow down.

Like a movie entering a bullet-time slow-motion sequence.

His mind was clear.

He realized that the Zombie's virus could only be transmitted through bites and blood contact for now.

As long as his body had no open wounds,

He wouldn't be infected even if he touched their blood!

He boldly grabbed the Zombie's outstretched, blood-stained arms with both hands.

Then he yanked it violently behind him.

Feeling the Zombie being pulled forward by his momentum, Arthur used the force to nimbly sidestep.

The dead body's blood-gushing, half-missing mouth almost grazed Arthur's nose!

He could even smell the strong scent of blood so close to him!

He could clearly see every single hair on the other party's made-up face!

"Junior!"

Almost telepathically,

Arthur turned his head.

He perfectly caught the crowbar Saeko Busujima threw to him.

His body had already lost balance.

Arthur plopped down onto the ground, the concrete floor of the corridor sending a sharp pain through his tailbone.

But he had no time to worry about that.

Gripping the crowbar in his hand,

he immediately flipped over and looked behind him.

The female dead body, which he had caused to lose balance and fall face-first, was now struggling to get up.

It all happened in a flash!

Arthur directly braced himself with his hands on the ground and pounced forward.

He straddled its body, kneeling on its back with one knee.

He pressed down on the dead body's spine, preventing it from getting up.

Then, he raised the crowbar in his hand and, without hesitation, plunged it into the back of its head, twisting it forcefully.

All of this occurred in the blink of an eye.

By the time Arthur snapped out of that peculiar state, only the corpses of two dead bodies remained.

It was then that Arthur realized his performance just now wasn't just calm, but also a high degree of synchronization between his mental and physical reaction speeds.

Could this be the benefit of high Spirit?

Most importantly,

looking at the corpse beneath him, holding the blood-soaked crowbar,

Arthur's body trembled slightly, uncontrollably.

This wasn't due to fear.

But because of excitement... At this moment,

he felt his soul undergo a transformation.

Something that had grown up enveloped by a peaceful society shattered.

In its place,

was a yearning to become stronger!

"Congratulations, Junior."

Saeko Busujima came to Arthur's side and reached out to wipe away the bloodstains splattered on his face.

"You are already a qualified warrior."

Arthur smiled, took her hand, and used it to help himself stand up.

Even now,

he still felt his legs were a bit weak.

He had truly almost died just now!

However,

the feeling after surviving it... was amazing!

Meanwhile, Ellen on the side felt like an outsider... Who am I?

Where am I?

What am I doing?

These three philosophical questions directly sank her consciousness.

She had thought her endurance had greatly improved after going out with the expert.

But now she realized she was too naive!

What were you two just talking about?

Why did the big shot suddenly recruit a cool and impressive-looking senior?

Why did they suddenly fight dead bodies?

Why did his fight, despite being a bit messy, look so cool?

Is this what it means to be a big shot?

Understood, understood!

"I'll just stick to being a slacker..."
