Minnie POV
The next two days felt heavier than usual. Every notification sound made my heart race. I kept checking my phone again and again, pretending to stay calm while my mind kept replaying the interuiew.
On the third day, while I was at the coffee shop, my phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
My hands trembled as I answered the call.
HR: "Hello Minnie, this is from the HR team. We're calling regarding your interview."
I stopped breathing for a second.
Minnie: "Yes. ma'am."
There was a brief pause
HR: "We are happy to inform you that you have been shortlisted for the assistant role. Our team was impressed with your clarity and honesty. We'll be sending you the official offer letter soon."
For a moment, I couldn't even speak.
Minnie: "Thank you... thank you so much, ma'am."
After the call ended, I stood there frozen. My eyes slowly filled with tears-not of fear this time, but relief. I closed my eyes and smiled to myself.
I did it.
Before telling my parents, I went straight to Sara's house. My heart was beating like a drum the whole way.
When she opened the door, she looked at my face and frowned.
Sara: "Why are you standing like this? You look like you saw a ghost."
I pushed her inside and closed the door dramatically.
Minnie: "Sara... I have BIG news."
She crossed her arms.
Sara: "If this is about food, I already ate."
I rolled my eyes. "This is not about food, idiot. Sit down first."
She sat on the sofa and stared at me like a judge.
Sara: "Okay, madam... tell me. Love problem or job problem"
I took a deep breath.
Minnie: "Job problem... but good one."
Her eyes widened.
Sara: "You got selected?!"
I nodded slowly.
Minnie: "Yes..."
She jumped up and hugged me tightly.
Sara: "I knew it! My best friend is going to be a big corporate lady!"
Then I hesitated.
Minnie: "But... there's one more thing."
She pulled back.
Sara: "Why do you look like someone died?"
I whispered,
Minnie: "The job is in Paris."
She froze.
Sara: "Paris? As in... Eiffel Tower Paris?"
Minnie: "Yes... same Paris."
She stared at me for two seconds and then screamed.
Sara: "YOU ARE LEAVING ME AND GOING TO PARIS?!"
I covered her mouth.
Minnie: "Shhh! Neighbours will think I ran away with a foreigner."
She hit my arm lightly.
Sara: "You traitor! First coffee shop, now Paris?"
I smiled sadly.
Minnie: "I didn't even tell my parents yet. You're the first person I came to."
She became quiet and held my hands.
Sara: "I'm happy for you... really. But I don't know how I'll survive without you."
Minnie: "You have Akil now."
She rolled her eyes.
Sara: "He's not you, Minnie."
We both laughed and then suddenly went silent.
After a moment, she said softly,
Sara: "You're running from Chennai because of Will, right?"
I looked down.
Minnie: "Not running... I'm choosing myself."
She hugged me again, tighter this time.
Sara: "Go, Minnie. Paris is waiting for you. But don't forget this crazy girl."
I wiped my tears and smiled.
Minnie: "How can I forget you? You're louder than my alarm clock."
She laughed through her tears.
Sara: "Promise me one thing."
Minnie: "What?"
Sara: "Video call me every day. And when you become successful, send me chocolates from Paris."
Minnie: "Deal."
We sat on the floor like old times, laughing, crying, and planning my future like two little girls with big dreams, Before leaving, she held my face and said,
Sara: "I'm proud of you, Minnie. This is your new beginning"
Sara POV
After Minnie left my house, I called Akil immediately.
Akil: "Why are you calling like there is an emergency?"
Sara: "It IS an emergency. Minnie might go to Paris for work."
He went silent.
Akil: "Paris? Did she selected in the interview"
Sara: "Yes. she gets selected, she'll be alone there. You also work in Paris, right?"
Akil: "Yes..."
I spoke seriously for the first time.
Sara: "Akil, I trust you. Please take care of her there. She is strong, but her heart is still broken"
Akil: "Yes... I know"
He sighed.
Akil: "I will. She's not just your friend... she's mine too."
Sara: "Promise me you won't let her feel lonely."
Akil: "I promise. I'll help her with everything-job, house, food... even when she pretends she's fine."
I smiled with relief.
Sara: "Thank you. If anything happens to her, I'll come to Paris and fight you."
He laughed.
Akil: "Noted. Bodyguard duty accepted"
Minnie POV
That evening, I sat beside my parents in the hall. My hands were shaking, and my phone was still in my palm with the mail open.
They already knew about my interview three days ago, but now... this was the result.
Minnie: "Mom ... Dad..... I got the mail from the company.
My mother looked up immediately.
Princy: "What did they say, Minnie?"
I swallowed and smiled softly.
Minnie: "I... I got selected."
For one second, they were silent. Then Dad stood up with a wide smile.
Thomas: "Really? My daughter did it!"
Mom came near me and hugged me tightly.
Princy: "I knew it. I knew you would clear it."
I took a deep breath.
Minnie: "But Dad... the job is in Paris."
Both of them froze.
Thomas: "Paris... so soon?"
I nodded.
Minnie: "They said I have to join end of this month. They will provide accommodation and everything."
Mom held my face gently.
Princy: "You are going so far from us..."
My eyes filled with tears.
Minnie: "I know, Mom. I'm scared too. But this is my dream job. I don't want to lose this chance."
Dad placed his hand on my shoulder.
Thomas: "We already knew this interview was important. If this is your future, we won't stop you."
Mom wiped her tears and tried to smile.
Princy: "Just promise me one thing... don't forget to eat on time and call us every day.'
I smiled through my tears.
Minnie: "I promise. I will make you proud."
Dad laughed softly.
Thomas: "You already did."
They both hugged me together, and for the first time. I felt excited and scared at the same time- excited for Paris, and scared of leaving my home.
Thomas POV
That night, Minnie was asleep. Princy and I sat on the balcony quietly.
Thomas: "She's really grown up, Princy. Our little girl wants to see the world."
Princy: "My heart feels heavy. I still remember taking her to school every day... and now she's going to another country."
He held her hand.
Thomas: "I wasted many years not being a good father. Now I don't want to stop her dreams."
Princy's eyes filled with tears.
Princy: "Do you think she's leaving because she's hurt?"
Thomas: "Maybe... but maybe she's also finding herself."
They both looked at Minnie's room.
Princy: "Paris is so far. Who will scold her if she skips meals?"
Thomas smiled sadly.
Thomas: "We will... on video call."
Princy rested her head on his shoulder.
Princy: "Let's pray she becomes strong, happy, and successful."
Thomas: "And let's pray she never forgets that she always has a home here."
They sat in silence, proud... scared... and full of love for their daughter who was ready to fly.
Minnie POV
Some days passed quickly. Everything happened like a dream.
My working visa arrived first.
Then my flight ticket to Paris came next.
Route: Chennai → Delhi→ Paris.
Akil also booked the same flight to Paris with me.
When I saw the ticket in my mail, my heart beat faster. I was excited... and scared at the same time.
Before leaving, Sara forced me to go shopping with her and Maya.
Sara: "You can't go to Paris wearing your coffee shop uniform, madam CEO assistant"
I laughed. "I am going for work, not for a fashion show."
We entered a big mall. Sara was pulling me from one shop to another like I was a trolley.
Maya suddenly became quiet and looked at me.
Maya: "Minnie... Is that real that you're leaving Chennai."
I nodded slowly.
Minnie: "Yes... I got a job in Paris."
Her eyes widened.
Maya: "Paris?! Like... foreign country Paris?!"
Sara: "No no, our Chennai Paris only." (she teased)
Maya hit Sara's arm.
Maya: "Shut up. Minnie, are you serious?"
I smiled softly.
Minnie: "Yes. I got selected as an assistant in a production company. They gave me visa and ticket already."
Maya suddenly hugged me tight.
Maya: "You idiot... why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Minnie: "I was scared. I didn't know how to say goodbye."
Maya's eyes became wet.
Maya: "You are leaving the coffee shop... leaving me..."
Minnie: "Only place is changing, Maya. Our friendship is not."
She wiped her tears quickly.
Maya: "Then promise me one thing. When you become a big officer in Paris, don't forget this poor coffee girl."
I laughed.
Minnie: "Never. I will video call you every day and show you Eiffel Tower"
Sara held two dresses in front of me.
Sara: "This is for office. This is for party. This is for crying about Will."
I glared at her.
Minnie: "I don't need carrying emotional dresses."
Maya laughed.
Maya: "She needs winter jacket also. Paris is cold. Minnie will freeze like ice cream."
Minnie: "I am not that weak!"
Sara suddenly became serious.
Sara: "Minnie... you are brave. You're starting new life."
I looked at both of them.
Minnie: "I'm scared too. But I need this distraction. Work will heal me."
Maya held my hand.
Maya: "You will shine there. And one day we will come to Paris and stay in your house."
Sara: "Yes! Free stay. Free food
While paying the bill, Maya asked suddenly:
Maya: "Who will come with you to airport?"
Minnie: "Akil. He also has work in Paris. We booked same flight."
Sara smirked.
Sara: "See, full protection. Bodyguard + brother + boyfriend of my best friend."
I laughed.
Maya: "Good. At least you won't cry alone in flight."
I became quiet for a second.
Minnie: "I will miss you both... so much."
Sara hugged me from one side, Maya from the other.
Sara: "Go, Minnie. Build your career. Chennai will wait for you."
Maya: "And coffee shop will keep your seat empty."
My eyes filled with tears, but I smiled.
Minnie: "Paris is calling... but my heart is still here"
I reached home tired but happy. My mom looked at me and smiled.
Mom: "You're back... Did you eat anything?"
I shook my head and sat beside her, placing the shopping bags near the sofa.
Minnie: "I already had dinner with Sara and Maya, mom.
She looked at the bags and smiled softly.
Mom: "I think you enjoyed your day."
I nodded, but my smile slowly faded.
Minnie: "Yes, mom... but I will miss these days. I don't know how life will be in Paris. Everything will be new. New people, new place... I feel scared."
She touched my cheek gently, her eyes full of love.
My throat became tight.
Minnie: "Mom... will you be okay if I'm not here? I worry about leaving you alone."
She smiled and held my hands.
Mom: "Why are you worrying about me? Now your father is with me. He will take care of me, and I will take care of him. You just focus on your life and your work."
My eyes filled with tears.
Minnie: "But every day I talk to you, sit with you, laugh with you... how will I live without that?"
She pulled me into a warm hug.
Mom: "Distance doesn't change love, Minnie. Even if you are far, you are always in my heart."
I rested my head on her shoulder.
Minnie: "I'm afraid, mom... but I also want to grow. I want to become someone you'll be proud of."
She kissed my forehead softly.
Mom: "I am already proud of you. Go and build your future. Be brave. And whenever you feel alone, just call me. I will always be here."
Tears rolled down my cheeks, but I smiled.
Minnie: "I promise, mom... I'll come back stronger."
She hugged me tighter.
Mom: "My little girl is flying now... but she will always be my baby"
