Chapter 28 - chapter 27

Minnie POV

Sara brought lunch for us, and we ate quietly. After a while, I couldn't hold it in anymore.

"Mom... tell me what really happened yesterday," I said softly.

She looked away, then took a deep breath. Her eyes slowly filled with tears.

"Yesterday, your father came home drunk and asked me for money," she began. "When I refused, he became angry."

Her voice trembled as she continued.

"He shouted, 'You never listen to me anymore! You think you are better than me now?' I told him, 'I am not giving you money for alcohol. I work hard for this house and for Minnie."

She closed her eyes, remembering everything.

"He pushed the table and said, 'You were nothing without me!'

I answered him, 'I married you because I loved you...not to be treated like this."

My heart tightened.

She looked at me and whispered, "Do you know, Minnie... your father and I had a love marriage. I fought with my family for him. Everyone warned me, but I believed love was enough."

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"But love changed. The man I trusted became someone I don't recognize anymore."

Then her voice broke completely.

"When I refused to give him money, he pushed me out of the house and closed the door. I hit the pillar and fainted there..."

I couldn't breathe. My hands started shaking with anger.

"That's it, Mom. We will file a police complaint. I can't see you like this anymore," I said firmly. "He doesn't deserve to hurt you."

But my mom quickly held my hand.

"No, Minnie... please don't," she pleaded. "He is still your father. If you go to the police, people will talk. Our family name will be ruined. I don't want your life to become difficult because of my mistakes."

I cried.

"Your only mistake was loving the wrong person, Mom and because of that love... I stopped believing in love at all."

She looked at me in shock.

"Minnie..." I saw how it broke you.

I wiped my tears and said bitterly,

"I saw what love did to you. I saw how it broke you. That's why I don't trust love anymore. I don't want a life like this."

She pulled my hand to her chest and whispered, "I didn't want my story to become your fear. I wanted you to believe in something better than me."

Sara stood beside me and said softly, "Minnie, right now your mom needs strength, not more pain."

I nodded slowly, but inside my heart something changed.

Love had once built my family... and the same love had destroyed it.

In the evening, I went home to take some clothes for my mom and me for the next two days. I asked Sara to stay in the hospital and take care of her. On the way home, I sent a message to Will and his mom saying that my mom had woken up. I also texted Maya about the situation and asked her to inform our manager that I needed a leave.

When I reached home, I saw my father sitting on the sofa. Anger rushed through me, but I controlled myself and ignored him as I walked toward my room. Suddenly, I heard his voice.

"Minnie, I don't see your mother anywhere. Where did she go?"

I ignored him and kept walking. He called me again, louder this time, and I couldn't hold myself anymore.

"Forget her. Do you have some money?" he asked coldly.

My heart burned with anger. "Money? That's all you ever care about! Do you even know what happened to Mom yesterday? You pushed her out and locked the door. You are heartless

He stood up angrily. "What nonsense are you talking about? Where is your respect, Minnie?"

I laughed bitterly. "Respect? Seriously, Dad? After everything you did to my mom, you still expect respect from me? I don't know why Mom chose you against her own family. She loved you so much... but you never deserved that love."

His face changed. "What are you saying? What happened to her?"

looked straight into his eyes. "You pushed her. She hit her head on the pillar and fell unconscious. There was blood everywhere. If I had reached home a little late, she would have gone into a coma forever. This happened because of you."

Thomas POV

Minnie's words kept echoing in my head. "She would have gone into a coma because of you."

I sat down slowly, my heart shaking. I had no anger left. Only shame.

Once, I was a good husband. I had business, dreams, and pride. But when my business failed, everything inside me broke. I couldn't accept the loss. I couldn't do another job. My pride turned into frustration... and that frustration turned into alcohol.

Drinking became my escape. Then gambling became my habit. I thought money would solve everything, but instead, I destroyed everything, princy married me against her family's wishes. She trusted me. She believed in me. And I repaid her with pain and fear.

I looked at the empty house and felt the weight of my mistakes. I had hurt the woman who loved me and scared the child who needed me.

"What have I become?" I whispered.

For the first time, I truly regretted my life. My failures did not just ruin me... they ruined my family.

If Princy wakes up, if Minnie forgives me, I don't know if I deserve it.

But I know one thing now - I lost my business long ago... and today, I almost lost my family too.

I saw Minnie standing silently in front of me, her eyes cold and tired.

Dad: "Minnie... please listen to me once. I know sorry is not enough. I failed you and your mother. I failed as a husband and as a father. But please... give me one chance to change."

My voice broke as I spoke. My hands were shaking.

Dad: "I lost everything when my business failed. I became weak. I chose alcohol and gambling instead of my family. That was my biggest mistake."

Minnie looked at me with tears in her eyes, but her face was still full of anger.

Minnie: "Do you know how many nights Mom cried because of you? Do you know how scared I was yesterday when I saw her lying on the floor?"

She took a deep breath, trying to control herself.

Minnie: "You say you are sorry now... but where were you when we needed you? When Mom stood against her family for you? When I was growing up without peace in this house?

Minnie: "I can't forgive you so easily. Not after everything you did to Mom... and to me."

She wiped her tears and took a step back.

Minnie: "I need time to think. I don't know if I can give you another chance. Right now, my mother needs me more than anything."

She turned away from me and picked up her bag.

Minnie: "If you really want to change, then show it. Don't say it."

With those words, she walked out of the house and went back to the hospital.

The door closed softly, but it sounded loud inside my heart.

I sat down on the sofa slowly. The house felt empty and silent.

I thought about Princy... about how she stood against her family to marry me. About Minnie, who grew up watching our fights instead of laughter.

My hands started to shake.

"What have I done to my life?" I whispered to myself.

I remembered the day my business failed... how I chose alcohol and gambling instead of responsibility... how I pushed away the two people who loved me the most.

Tears fell from my eyes for the first time in years.

"If I lose them now... it will be because of my own mistakes.'

I sat there alone, surrounded by memories and regrets, realizing that this might be my last chance to become the man they once trusted.

Will POV

I was watching a movie, but my mind was not on the screen. I kept thinking about Minnie and her mother. She hadn't called or messaged me for a long time, and worry slowly filled my heart.

Suddenly, my phone vibrated. I grabbed it quickly and saw Minnie's message: "My mom is awake now." A smile spread across my face and I immediately went to my mom.

"Mom... Minnie's mom is awake." I said with relief.

Mom looked at me with wide eyes and then smiled softly. "Thank God. That poor girl has suffered so much."

Then she teased me, raising her eyebrows. "So... someone wants to meet his mother-in-law very soon?"

I widened my eyes. "Mother-in-law? No, Mom! Don't say that. It's not like that." Inside my heart, I whispered, It's just a fake relationship... don't think too much.

Mom stood up and picked Þ-er handbag. "Enough jokes. We should go to spital and see Minnie and her mother."

Just then, Dad came out of his room wearing his coat.

Dad: "I have an important meeting today. I can't come with you."

looked at him and asked, "Do you need any help, Dad?"

He shook his head gently. "No, son. You go. Minnie needs you more right now."

Mom turned to him with concern. "At least call me after your meeting."

Dad smiled lightly. "I will. Take care of them."

Mom held my arm and said, "Come on, Will. Let's not make Minnie wait."

I picked up the car keys and followed her. As we walked out, my heart felt strangely heavy and warm at the same time.

Fake relationship or not... all I knew was that I wanted to see Minnie and make sure she was okay.
