KAEL'S POV
I hit Kain so hard we both crashed through the tent wall and spilled out into the clearing. Snow exploded around us. Canvas tore. Blood sprayed. My jaws snapped for his throat. He blocked it with his forearm. MY Teeth met bone. He screamed from the pain.
Good.
Let him scream.
Let him feel what I had felt for weeks.
I pinned him down. I ripped at his arm. I tore his muscle away from bone. He stabbed at me with a silver blade. The edge sliced through fur and sank into flesh just below my ribs. Pain flared white-hot. I did not stop. I did not care. I lunged again. As my claws raked across his chest. Blood welled dark against his shirt.
He was still smiling.
"Go on," he gasped. "Kill me. She will never forgive you."
I paused.
Just for a second.
Just long enough.
He drove the blade deeper. Twisted.
I howled.
The sound ripped out of me raw and broken. Somewhere behind me Riley screamed my name.
I did not look.
I could not look.
