Chapter 8 - 8. PARK II

I might have been drunk out of my head last night but I couldn't forget that voice if I was dead. I turned around swiftly. He stood on the grass a few feet away. His tense back facing me. His short black locks glowed in the sun and I felt the urge to run my fingers through it. His attention was focused on the toothless bundle of joy standing across from him. She stood on her tiptoes and tried to catch something he was holding in the air. Her princess red dress and tiara made her look so angelic. She jumped to catch it but missed. A frown stretched on her beautiful face and she pouted and stomped her tiny feet. He lowered it and she caught it this time. Her angelic giggle filled the air and a smile made its way to my face. Just then a beautiful woman joined them. In each hand she held a corn of ice cream. Her long black hair blew in the wind behind her back. Her toned curves filled her black dress perfectly. She said something to him and he nodded stiffly. He lifted the little girl into his arms. They looked like a happy family. A bang of jealousy went through me. What the hell was wrong with me?

His gaze suddenly fell on me and our eyes locked. Those intense black gray and amber orbs. It was only for a second but my heart skyrocketed. It slammed against my rib cage and butterflies filled my stomach. I gasped and looked away quickly. I had had my share of crushes on men. But this one was different. One look and I was a bundle of nerves like a freaking fifteen-year-old. I sank deeper into the seat and wished I'd just disappear or teleport a few kilometres away. I was not a sci-fi novel writer but I wished for a damn portal. When I was sure they had left and their laughter and joyful banter had died down I exhaled a breath I didn't know I was holding. Sometime during the day, I switched my phone off when Carl and Xavier couldn't stop calling. I must have fallen asleep, because when my eyes finally snapped open, the sun was disappearing behind the horizon. The air was scalding and my butt was freezing. My neck hurt a little from holding my head on the hard seat. I shuffled a little and cranked my sore neck. I lifted my arms in the air and stretched my numb muscles like a cat. They rewarded me with a satisfying crank and I sighed deeply.

"I see you are finally awake." A deep voice jolted me and I snapped my head sideways. There he sat two seats away in all his breathtaking glory. One leg on top of the other. His strong legs pressed against the black gene deliciously. His black jacket hung strained against his broad shoulders. His intense dark orbs with bits of gray swirling in them rested on me. My heart slammed in my ribcage and a drop of sweat slid down my back. I blinked rapidly because there was no way I was not dreaming. He was really there and was relaxed as hell while I was breaking down. I averted my eyes and drew a pattern on my thigh with my finger. Was he here to torment me or anything? I suddenly felt angry and I regarded him with an angry glare. How dare he have the nerve to call me mentally unstable.

"What do you want?!" I snapped. He looked slightly taken aback but he maintained his calm demeanor.

"You could try saying thank you." He raised a perfect blow and his eyes kept drilling holes into me.

"Is it money you want?" I snapped and it sounded bitchy even for me. His eyes darkened and his jaw ticked.

"Are you crazy?" His voice lowered an octave as if he was talking to a child and his eyes narrowed dangerously. He threw my phone at me. "Here, I took it from the pickpocketers who robbed it from you while you were busy sleeping."

My eyes snapped wide and I have never felt like an asshole. He jumped to his feet and I panicked. "Wait." I called hurriedly. His back remained facing me. "Please." I added it quickly. He turned around slowly and gave me a scrutinizing look. I fiddled with my phone and avoided looking him in the eye.

"I'm sorry, okay." I started and he raised a brow. Well, where was my confidence? I was suddenly a bundle of nerves in front of this beautiful stranger. "It's been a rough weekend and I… I didn't mean to be rude." My eyes suddenly filled with tears and I blinked rapidly to keep them at bay. I looked away and cleaned a lone tear that managed to escape. Maybe I was truly mentally unstable.

"At least you could buy me coffee as a peace offering." His voice filled the silence. He was now close to me and his eyes were filled with concern. He didn't try to pry and I was thankful.

"Okay." A small smile found it on my face. "where would you…" my sentence was cut by his vibrating phone. His glove covered hand fished it out of his jacket pocket and put it to his ears.

"I'm flying there tomorrow." His voice replied to the person on the other side of the line.

"Just get Kyle down there," his deep voice insisted, he listened to the other side of the call for a while before he finally shook his head in disappointment. "Damn it, I'll be there in a minute."

"Alana"

"I'm sorry Alana something just came up, I'll have to catch you on that coffee another time." He said a bit distracted as he typed fiercely on his phone.

"It's getting late, let me walk you to your car." He said flatly and I led the way as he followed behind me, his phone keypad going crazy. The person on the other side must have pissed him off. He made sure I got to my car and even held the door open for me. "You shouldn't be out here alone at this time, get in." He said and I obediently sat in my driver's seat under his watchful stare. He didn't move till I pulled out of the parking lot and sped off. What a bossy presence. Only after I had driven a while did I realize I hadn't asked his name.
