Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Argument

[3rd POV]

Walking up to the front door of the Dunphy home, the two could not even knock on the front door of the home before it whipped open at a speed that made both of them step back in slight surprise. The door nearly hitting them as they both looked at Luke who was standing on the other side.

"...Sorry?" Luke awkwardly said. Haley glared at her little brother.

"Luke! Don't just slam the door open like that! You almost hit me and Billie!" Haley yelled at her brother, who flinched back at his sister's words. She was a pretty scary person when she yelled.

"Haley? You're home!" The sound of Claire's voice echoed as she walked up from behind Luke, having not heard the yelling from her daughter. But the enraged look on her daughter's face, and the sheepish expression on Luke's face gave her enough clues to ask her next question.

"What happened? Why is Haley looking at you like she wants to kill you, Luke?" Claire asked with a look of warning on her face, glaring at her son. He flinched back once again, as he was now being glared at by both his older sister on top of his mother.

Both of them were terrifying.

"He slammed the door open and almost hit me and Billie!" Haley exclaimed, as Claire looked back at her son with a look of warning.

"I told you not to do that anymore, and seriously, I need to talk to Phil about fixing that door. Because that definitely should not be opening in that direction" Claire grumbled, realizing that the door was sort of inverted, which was becoming an issue.

They had nearly hit someone with the door several times now. And the only reason the door was like this was because they had to get a new one after Luke decided to roll down the steps like he was on a snow sled.

Only to barrel into the door, breaking the hinges and making a giant dent into the door itself. While also giving himself a big ass bump and a lot of pain for the next few days. On top of a short visit to the doctors office after it had lasted for more than three days.

Three days longer than any of them had been expecting.

"Annnyways, how was Seattle? Was it as cold and depressing as I've heard?" Claire asked as Haley and Billie walked into the home while Claire walked farther in. It would seem that Phil was not home, which Billie assumed was because he was at work.

Claire was a stay at home mom at this point.

"No, it was actually really cozy there. Cold and rainy, but cozy. On top of that the city was pretty beautiful, didn't have nearly as much trash as we have here in LA, and had some pretty cool stuff to do" Haley responded with a shake of her head, as she had enjoyed her time in Seattle quite thoroughly.

Personally she still liked LA more, mostly because it was home, and there was a lot of stuff she could do there. Whereas Seattle was more beautiful, but was also much smaller, didn't have nearly as many things to do, and it was not really her home.

Billie did plan on buying a vacation home over there once she got her next burst of money. She planned on buying a nice house outside of Seattle, so it would be a short drive over there. It would also be pretty close to the closest airport so it'd only take like 10 minutes to get there from the new home.

The house would cost a few million, but it'd be pretty easy to keep nice and beautiful. Washington was a much better looking state than California after all. At least when it came to nature and the overall aesthetic. Not to mention the people.

"Huh...and what about the kiddos? Did you grant them their wishes?" Claire asked, curious to hear about the make a wish kids that they had gone to meet in the first place.

"Yup. We also got some gifts for the other kids at the hospital, not just the ones that wished to meet us. We thought it'd be unfair if we didn't get them anything at all, while giving a ton of gifts to the kids that wished to see us" Billie responded before Haley could. Hearing her words, Haley nodded in agreement, as that was the point of it.

"That was nice of you" Claire commented, as she began to clean the dishes for the day, while Haley realized something.

"Wait...where's Alex? Shouldn't she be here?"

"No honey, school isn't out yet. Christmas break doesn't start for another week for the two of you" Claire replied with a shake of her head, as she continued to clean.

"Then why is Luke here? Shouldn't he be at school right now?" Haley asked, glancing over at Luke who seemed to pale slightly as Claire looked over at him, a frown working it's way onto her face.

It was pretty clear what was happening there.

"Did he skip school?" Billie asked after Haley had asked her own question.

"...It would seem so. I cannot believe I did not even notice that you are home when you should be at school!" Claire yelled, glaring at her son who looked around for an escape plan to get out of the argument that was just begging to begin.

"I-Well" "Well? What in the world are you doing here? And why in the world are you not in school right now?" Claire asked, cutting off Luke as he had attempted to find a way to get out of this situation.

"Um...I may have gotten into a small fight with a kid almost in Highschool?" Luke responded with an awkward expression on his face, already knowing what the response was going to be.

"You fought with a high schooler?! Why!?" Claire yelled at her son, growing even more concerned now. While Billie raised an eyebrow at the boys words, wondering what he could have possibly done to get into a fight.

"Mom he...he was picking on some of the other kids" Luke replied, looking out the side while Claire continued to glare.

"So what! You could have contacted your teacher or me. It is not your job to watch over other students, Luke! And while I am proud of you for sticking up for others, and staying true to your morals, I cannot just let this slide!" Claire responded once again, her anger was very clear.

"What? Was I just supposed to sit there and watch while he was beating up a kid with autism? And the teachers don't care, Mom! Especially since the kid that is bullying everyone is the son of some rich guy that owns a bunch of grocery stores and laundry mats" Luke yelled back, as Billie and Haley awkwardly glanced at one another, wondering if they should be there right now.

The two of them decided that no, they should not be there right now. So they had excused themselves before walking upstairs, but not before Billie made sure to tell Claire that she had to speak with her about something. Just the two of them in this case, which no doubt confused her girlfriend.

But she'd find out sooner or later.

So, with them making their way upstairs, and away from the growingly tense argument between Luke and Claire, Billie walked alongside her girlfriend, one thought on her mind.

'Let's hope she won't be that angry when I ask about Paris...'
