Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Singling Out Nice Nature for Praise

After finishing her tasks, Mizuki quickly returned to Spica. Her thoughts were flowing like a spring, and she immediately began today's diary update.

[Too many ridiculous things happened today; I didn't know where to start. I'll just go through it slowly by the timeline.]

[When I woke up this morning, since there was no training, I was quite relaxed, so I went to Tracen to enjoy a comfortable breakfast.]

[While eating, I ran into quite a few Horse Girls, including Special Week, Seiun Sky, Grass Wonder, El Condor Pasa, Twin Turbo, Daitaku Helios, and Nice Nature.]

[First, I want to specifically single out and praise Nice Nature. I really have to give her a mention.]

[This girl Nice Nature has a good name, but the result is that her nature is the opposite of nice. She's filled with all sorts of cunning remarks. This morning she had Twin Turbo crying and making a scene. I can't help but wonder, does this girl really have a conscience?]

[El Condor Pasa was stunned standing nearby, though El is quite the character herself. Always wearing that mask and liking to stand up and shout about being the "Super-speed Phantom Bird" of Tracen Academy. 50% of her head must be filled with dramatic lines, another 50% wrestling information, and 0% thoughts on her schoolwork.]

[I also noticed that Grass-san would often look the other way at those times, probably trying to pretend she doesn't know El. Good grief, I was dying of laughter.]

[She probably thinks El looks incredibly silly when she makes those weird shouts. Haha, I totally agree with her.]

[As for Seiun Sky, this girl has eight hundred schemes in her head and half of them are there to make it easier for her to laze around. She hadn't finished her homework, so she said King Halo definitely hadn't finished hers either. King was so mad she threw her perfectly finished homework at Sky on the spot to prove her innocence.]

[Seiun Sky was all smiles, and she memorized all the answers in an instant. This girl is something else. She has such a good memory but refuses to study properly, using it all on little tricks instead.]

[King Halo, on the other hand, is a good student. To be honest, I ran into her when I first arrived at Tracen. She was practicing some kind of mocking laughter back then. It wasn't until I got closer that I realized it was First-Rate laughter. It totally threw me for a loop.]

[I was thinking, why would such a good girl practice such indecent laughter? Turns out I just misheard. It was just her classic victory laugh.]

[As for Special Week, this girl only cares about eating. Seeing how much she can eat, I'm relieved. Being able to eat is a blessing, a blessing indeed.]

[She might be a bit too blessed though.]

Tracen Academy.

El Condor Pasa and the others had just entered their break time when Mizuki's diary appeared. El immediately picked it up and read through it with great interest. But she didn't expect to see herself right away.

"Eh... Silly? That's so mean, Trainer!"

El found it hard to accept for a moment. She was actually a bit of a goofball, and her expression now was quite funny.

"Uuuu, El is the! World's! Strongest! Compared to Grass and Sky, I'm definitely quite smart, desuuuuuuu!"

"And what Grass-san did was a misunderstanding too. She's my rival, after all!" El pumped a fist and stood up straight.

She was quite the optimist.

However, reading further, King Halo's mouth dropped open. She didn't expect that all of it had been part of Seiun Sky's plan?

"So she deliberately wanted to copy my homework?"

"O—hohohoho!"

Surprisingly, King Halo wasn't angry at all. Instead, she gave a confident laugh. She understood— Seiun Sky had gone as far as lying just to copy her homework, which further proved her first-rate academic ability. How could that not be a reason for joy?

King Halo's logic had always been this novel.

But as King continued reading, her characteristic loud laughter came to a screeching halt, turning into a violent coughing fit.

"Wh... what do you mean 'mocking laughter'!"

King Halo couldn't take it anymore. Wasn't this pure slander? She gritted her teeth in rage, but there was nothing she could do. She was naturally earnest, and now a blush crept over her cheeks. Seriously, her laugh wasn't mocking or indecent! It was first-rate laughter! First-rate!!

Everyone else saw this and was dying of laughter. Even an elegant existence like Grass Wonder couldn't help herself. Although Mizuki explained it later, most of the girls were laughing so hard their sides hurt. The setup was just too ridiculous.

Still, they were thinking: This is one of the only times they've seen King Halo stop her laughter mid-way, isn't it?

"Aaaaaah! I'm so mad! Trainer Mizuki!!"

King Halo was thin-skinned. Hearing everyone's laughter, her face turned bright red with embarrassment. She stomped her feet in anger. She wanted to go complain to Mizuki, but then remembered she couldn't mention the diary— it was an unsolvable problem. In her rage, she could only punch the air as if Trainer Mizuki were standing right in front of her.

"Hmph."

Finally, she snorted and continued reading the diary.

'She better not continue to persecute me in the later parts!'

If she did, King Halo planned to find the Trainer. She couldn't keep writing like this, or she'd have to suffer the consequences!!!

"Hmph!!!!!"

As for Seiun Sky, she was holding her head with a distraught expression.

"It's over. Seuin-chan's thoughts have been completely seen through. Seuin-chan is going to be labeled a bad girl again."

"Uuu... Trainer Mizuki, could you please just not write about Seiun Sky?"

Seiun Sky was absolutely mortified. Now that she had no way to explain herself, she was bound to become the textbook example of a "bad student" in the hearts of Uma Musume parents all over the world.

Indeed, she had self-awareness. In places all over the globe— France, Dubai, Hong Kong— everyone had already taken Seiun Sky as a cautionary tale, telling their children: "Don't grow up to be like that Seiun Sky, someone with no knowledge or skills."

They had already mentally constructed an image of Seiun Sky as the type of girl who loiters around, sleeps in class, slacks off during runs, and only cares about fishing.

Likely, only Seiun Sky's grandfather still considered her the genius of their ranch— a genius Uma Musume capable of winning the Triple Crown. Her grandfather had always believed in her.

Meanwhile, Nice Nature saw herself being "singled out for praise" and couldn't hold it together.

"Seriously, why write about me right at the start? Although I want to be a bit more eye-catching, this is a negative review, isn't it?"

"But... but... what on earth is 'opposite of nice'? Hahaha! For some reason, it's so funny."

Nice Nature didn't know why, but even though she felt she was being persecuted and knew she should be angry, that phrase hit her funny bone perfectly. She couldn't stop herself from laughing, and her voice remained incredibly cute.

It's true that Nice Nature's sense of humor is quite peculiar. She is one of the few who actually laughs at Symboli Rudolf's Dad Jokes.

But she eventually stopped. Generally speaking, she was just teasing Twin Turbo a bit. How was that "the opposite of nice"? Anyone would have done the same... probably.

In reality, however, nobody would do that.

Only you, Nice Nature.

At the same time, Matikane Tannhauser saw this scene as well.

"Wow, everyone is together, it's so lively!"

"Mumu-mumu! El Condor Pasa, Neicha-san... everyone seems to have such distinct personalities."

"Neicha-san really was a bit much, haha! No wonder Turbo was so sad this morning; she has to sweep the floors."

"Looking at it this way, I feel like I'm the only one who's so ordinary. I really need to keep working hard."

Matikane Tannhauser had a cute look on her face as she seriously read the diary, acknowledging and memorizing every powerhouse mentioned within. She considered herself an ordinary person, so after remembering everyone's names, she planned to watch their races and study their traits.

Tannhauser's dream was to desperately let her own light shine in front of these powerful geniuses, so that the people back home and those who supported her could see her and remember her. Because, even if she was ordinary, she wanted to bring the joy and laughter of racing to everyone.

'Ehehe, it would be great if I could achieve that...'

Tannhauser rubbed her head; she often had these silly dreams.

"Also, El Condor Pasa is amazing! Having the courage to say she's the world's strongest— that's so full of personality! I want to be like her."

"Because if you have personality, it's easier to be remembered, right?"

"Okay! Maybe I should invent some personalized running styles too!"

"Hmm? How about running with my eyes closed? Everyone would definitely remember that!"

Tannhauser came up with this idea. But she quickly realized it was obviously too difficult, because with her eyes closed, she wouldn't be able to see the path ahead.

"Hehe, it's okay! I'll just keep doing my best!"

"And I saw that on Trainer Mizuki's diary, there are training goals just for me. As long as I complete them, both I and my real-life counterpart can get rewards..."

"I wonder if I can do it? It would be great if I could give you a reward."

"Mumu-mumu... ideally something to make you luckier, so you won't be scared by spiders so often, or trip while walking, or have bad luck like me— always getting hit and getting nosebleeds..."

With a smile, Matikane Tannhauser listed these points one by one. She wanted to bring good luck to this friend she had never met.
