Chapter 2 - 2: outsmarted

Amanda

I waited for Kira to deny all that Aaron had just said, but seconds morphed into a minute and she still remained silent. By the time she sighed and averted her gaze, I let out a dry laugh, my mind starting to reel all over again.

So Aaron hadn't been lying. They've really been secretly seeing each other, and she was fucking pregnant for him. My best friend and the only genuine friend I believed I made after leaving my pack five years ago. Before this moment, I used to think I could trust Kira with my life. We kept nothing from each other, and after my husband and kids, she was the next person I'd pick without hesitations. It's why I went straight to her house yesterday with the kids, fully trusting that I was safe there.

Meanwhile it was the complete opposite.

"How could you?" I whispered, my heart completely shattering from the immense amount of hurt I was feeling presently. In twenty hours, I've been betrayed by the two people I loved the most in the world, and one of my daughters was nowhere to be found.

Oh heavens. I've been so stupid.

Kira sighed and walked into the study, heading my way. Before she could get to me, I pulled myself to my feet and angrily wiped my tears off.

"Don't bother explaining yourself to me, I don't want to hear it." I growled coldly, getting filled with the urge to claw her eyes out right now from how betrayed I was feeling.

Kira stopped before me and rolled her eyes.

"I wasn't planning to, because you don't deserve one. You weren't supposed to find out this way, but I guess it's long overdue and besides, I was tired of keeping it a secret anyway." She drawled and I breathed in deeply to prevent myself from screaming or breaking down again. That was the last thing I needed to be doing right now.

"I don't care about any of that right now. I just want my child. Where are you keeping her?" I asked, eyes darting to Aaron who has now come to drape his arm over Kira's shoulder.

"Just forget about her, Amanda." He responded smoothly and my ears began to ring again.

"Since everything is out in the open, you'll have to vacate the Luna's seat immediately, because I intend to make Kira my next Luna. The powers I'll get from Aria, I'll share it with Kira and we'll become very powerful together." He continued and tears began to roll down my face without me realizing it.

"Why though? Why our daughter? Your own daughter, Aaron." I sobbed, feeling helpless and drained. "And why kira?? I- I thought we were all happy together. You promised to spend forever with me, remember?"

Aaron snorted.

"There's a lot you don't know, Amanda." That was all he said in response. When he didn't say anything else, I let out a deep breath and tried to come up with something I could do as I walked past the two people who had just betrayed me, determined to do something in finding hopes of my daughter- whom I still believe and hope is alive.

"The maids will move your things out from the masters bedroom today." Aaron called out as I exited the study but I didn't bother responding because that was the last thing I was concerned about.

They can be together if they want, even though it hurts to think about. But all my brain can be worried about right now is my missing daughter.

After exiting we'd the palace, I went to the pack's council members, called a quick meeting after informing them of what my husband did.

That was the only thing I could do right now.

Aaron's father was late, but his mother was alive and she loved me like a child. When I got there and explained all that happened, she didn't believe me. I insisted on being right and after we all got to the meeting with the pack council members in attendance, I explained my plight to them again, and they insisted on summoning Aaron first because just like Aaron's mother, they didn't believe me- especially since I had no proof.

However, when Aaron arrived, he looked completely heartbroken and like he had been crying, and the first thing he did was to accuse me of selling his daughter off to some rogues in exchange for some rare diamonds.

I was beyond appalled, because I hadn't fully believed that he'd actually turn this whole thing around, but that was exactly what he just did.

"He's lying! I'd never do that to my own daughter!" I cried out desperately as I looked between the council members, hoping that they'd believe me. Not from the disgusted expressions on their faces, it was clear they believed Aaron over me.

"I knew you were trouble from the beginning!" Aaron's mother cried out as she broke down, hugging a sobbing Aaron who was whispering Aria's name like he was the actual victim in this situation.

"You bastard! Why are you doing this to me?" I cried out in frustration but Aaron brought out a box and handed it to the council members. In it were large, exquisite diamonds and gold jewelries with a small letter that said 'thanks for the deal. Nice doing business with you'.

After that, all that happened next was a blur.

I was still desperately pleading to be believed but in no time, Aaron was summoning guards to capture me and lead me to the pack's square. I was paraded through the pack, and news of what I supposedly did spread fast like wildfire. Of course the pack members whom I dedicated my life to the past five years, instantly believed those words and called me all sorts of names as I did the walk of shame.

I was left underneath a large pillar throughout the night, and the next day, when Aaron came with the guise of questioning me for the whereabouts of my daughter, I spat right into his face and hurled every vile word I could remember at him

Aaron didn't react, he only left, ignoring my desperate screams for the whereabouts of my child.

The next night- my third day tied against the tree without food or water, the entire pack members were gathered and they were determined to stone me to death.

Aaron played the hero by intervening at the last moment, and then he made a show of loudly questioning me for the whereabouts of Aria before everyone.

When I asked him to go fuck himsekf, he slapped me hard and the crowd cheered.

He then gripped my throat hard and began to speak.

"I, Aaron of Auravas pack, reject you, Amanda, as my mate." He gritted the words out and my chest instantly got filled with a searing pain. He didn't release my throat till I accepted the rejection before everyone. At once, I got engulfed with so much pain, it felt like I might pass out.

"This is what you get for thinking you can outsmart me." He crooned quietly into my ear, eyes hard,

"You sick bastard. You'll pay for this, I swear to you," I hurled at him before spitting into his face. He only rolled his eyes and slapped me hard again, then he turned away and announced that he was sentencing me to death for my crimes.

As hoots of cheers went up the air, dread completely engulfed me- not because I was worried about myself, but because I still have a daughter left- Alia. And if he was gonna kill me, it means he'll also render Alia the same fate as Aria.

I began to scream desperately for my child, fighting against the ropes biting into my skin.

As I struggled, Alia suddenly emerged in the front of the crowd, with Kira trying to hold her back, but it was too late because Alia already spotted me and she was crying as she rushed towards me. Kira held her back while she struggled.

"No, honey. Your mummy is evil, remember what I told you? She's the reason your twin is no more." Kira said to a wide eyed Alia and my heart completely shattered at the realization that they had poisoned my daughter's mind. But then Alia shook her head and glanced towards me.

"Mommy can't do that. She can't hurt anyone." She said softly and I completely broke down while desperately calling my daughter to me.

Alia managed to escape Kira's hold and was engulfing me in a tight hug while I cried hard, because I might not get to experience this again.

Aaron emerged with a few guards and instantly came to wrench Alia away from me before ordering the guards to loosen my bindings and take me over to where I'd be beheaded.

I struggled but it was pointless, and my heart stuck in my throat as they began to lead me away. I tried to take one last look at my daughter but the rough guards made that impossible.

This was it, wasn't it?

This is how I'm going to die.

Just like that.

As those thoughts echoed through my head, a murmur suddenly began to go up in the air, which soon changed into panicked cries just as a few guards raced forward to announce loudly.

"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK, EVERYONE."
