Chapter 4 - Ch4

As an ambitious scientist, known across Earth for his many achievements and deeds, some of which were horrific to say the least. For he was known not only for the dead left in his wake, but also for countless achievements that helped humanity as a whole. The creation of drugs for previously incurable diseases was among his greatest accomplishments.

Many forms of cancer and other illnesses became mostly curable because of him. Deficiencies that one was born with could also be treated through his creations. These innovations changed the lives of many for the better, and those people worshipped him.

However, there were many more who hated him for destroying their lives, along with the horrific acts that occurred because of the things he created.

The reason for this hatred was his creation of weapons, extremely dangerous ones at that. This was what he specialized in, earning countless sums and making him the richest person alive.

This wealth he accumulated was created through the destruction of many countries and the blood of others.

Many had witnessed the power of his weapons and verified it firsthand. After all, they were survivors of them. When the world was already unstable, with civil wars happening across the globe and the eventual start of World War Three, the demand for his weapons increased. He sold them without reservation to every nation throughout Earth.

And how was he not attacked by others, when he was essentially pouring oil on the fire? That was because he had already isolated himself on an island covered in arrays of defenses so advanced that even nuclear weapons could not affect him.

This forced powerful nations to consider whether they should take him down or not. Backed by his statement that any action against him would result in the termination of weapon supplies while continuing supply to enemy nations, the world was forced onto the back foot.

Forcing them not to make any moves that might backfire in their own faces while giving an advantage to their enemies, something they could not afford. So they wisely chose not to take action against him, lest it become unfavorable for them.

Back to the original matter.

No matter the price, all his weapons—be they military-grade massive plasma cannons, shielding systems, energy disruptors, and more—were unmatched. These weapons not only changed the very structure of combat but made much mid-range and even long-range warfare obsolete. This was mainly because of the shielding technology, which rendered conventional weapons nearly useless.

No matter what others did, they were unable to deplete the shielding system's power quickly enough to break it, regardless of their efforts. This, indeed, calmed the whole world for a time.

Only for him to introduce a new kind of weapon: combat suits, followed by mechs whose power was off the charts. Not only could they damage shields at a rate faster than recovery, but they also forced the world into having no choice but to buy them as well. Another era of fear and war followed, and he thoroughly enjoyed the destruction that resulted from it.

Though despite the wars, not as many lives were lost as one might have expected, it was still a steep loss. Many centuries fell, and societal structures were destabilized, leading to murder and arson—things he felt no guilt toward.

But all the while, he was suffering as well, for he was dying a most cruel death. He had a rare, aggressive disease that was slowly but surely destroying his genetics. The trend was unstoppable. No matter what he did, he could not find any solution to stop it from happening.

And with time, he fell to his death.

After that, he was here.

Yes, what he did had no clear reason. The world war was not something he directly caused, but he did fuel it until it became far worse than it ever should have been.

The loss of life he had caused—he knew it was uncalled for. Yet he still did it, as if he were possessed. No, it was not possession. He believed it was simply his nature. From childhood to his death, he was always close to destruction, even to death itself. Absurd and strange, but that was the truth.

That nature pushed him to create those weapons, some powerful enough to destroy the whole world. Yet he still created them, no matter what. As for the cures, he only dove into human biology when he learned of his own genetic failure. Because of that, he created cures—maybe out of guilt, or maybe for some other reason.

That was something he remembered. And if karma truly worked that way, his balance should have been deeply negative, not like now, where he possessed so many karma points and divine points.

The reason for this lay in what happened after his death.

About thirty years later, the world he had left in shambles healed itself. His destructive weapons were gathered, and agreements were made among nations across the world. They were sealed away, never to be used unless humanity itself stood on the verge of extinction.

While the weapons of destruction were sealed, many other things were uncovered on the island where he had lived and died. The restrictions were something he had removed before his death. Many nations swarmed the island and found countless things he never had the chance to present to the world—more destructive weapons, but also many healing creations such as genetic serums and even life-extension serums, among many others.

The world powers, some of whom were his pawns left behind, ensured that his gifts would not be taken advantage of by only those in power while the rest of the world suffered. Yes, he had a change of heart—but so what? If he was going to die, then so be it.

Those people ensured the world would develop according to his wishes. Absurd to believe, but that was the truth.

The world changed and prospered, and the lives of many improved. But this was not attributed to him.
