"Go ahead," she said quietly, her voice cutting through the angry murmurs like a knife through cloth. "If that's what you want to do, then do it. Kill me. But know that when you do, you'll never find out who really killed your mate. You'll never know the truth about what happened that night. You'll just be murderers, same as you're accusing me of being."
"You ARE the murderer..."
"Then why did David have to break into my cage?" Liora interrupted, her voice gaining strength and conviction. "If I'm already condemned, if the evidence is so overwhelming, why couldn't he wait eight more days for the full moon? Why did someone give him access to my cage? Why did someone let him past your security?"
That question hung in the air like smoke, and she saw several guards exchange uncertain glances as the implications of what she was suggesting began to sink in.
