My arm stayed around him.
His hand stayed in mine.
Because after everything, there was no way I was letting him go again.
We were happy—truly, deeply happy.
After the endless congratulations and the emotional high of the ceremony, we moved into the reception. It was a masterpiece of celebration. The finest wine flowed, the food was exquisite, and the air was filled with the sound of laughter and camera shutters.
We took every combination of photos imaginable: Alis with my family, my parents with his, and our friends huddled around us in one big, joyful blur.
But as the night wore on and the party reached its peak, I looked at Alis and saw the same exhaustion and longing in his eyes that I felt in mine. We didn't want to wait until the last guest left or the final song played. Most couples have to stay until the bitter end, but I've never been one for following the rules.
