Chapter 5
Lina's POV
Before I could make any move, my mother's grip tightened around my wrist and pulled me along.
I didn't resist. There was no point in creating more drama here. I'd already created enough for them to choke on. Besides, I was done with what I came here for.
I didn't do this without thinking about the consequences. Infact, I saw this coming.
Rejected or not, Omega or not, I was aware that as long as this engagement didn't work out, my parents wouldn't want anything to do with me.
My mother dragged me along as I took hurried steps to keep up with her fast pace. As soon as we reached home, she shoved me hard.
I stumbled and fell, landing on the ground in a sitting position. Pain radiated through my side, but I ignored it. Slowly, I lifted my head, meeting her eyes.
But instead of giving her the look of remorse she was expecting from her obedient and dutiful daughter, a small smile stretched across my lips...
"What?" I asked, deliberately cheerful. "Does it pain you so much that you'll no longer be mother-in-law to the future Alpha like you so badly wished?"
Her face went pale for a moment, and the room felt heavy with tension. I could almost feel the rage simmering beneath her carefully maintained composure.
"Lina, what in the world has happened to you? I'll make you regret what you've done today!" she barked. Her voice trembled, angry and sharp.
She turned to one of the maids standing nearby, frozen. "Bring out her belongings… she's no longer a part of this household. I'm sending her to the servants quarters."
I felt my fists clench at my sides.
I had expected this. I wasn't surprised. My past life had taught me exactly what kind of parents I had. How easily they could discard me when I stopped serving their image. How hollow their love had always been.
Without showing a shred of pain, I stood to my feet and dusted off my clothes. Every motion was deliberate, casual, controlled.
"You could have at least waited for Dad to come before you made such a decision," I said, taunting her, my voice calm.
"Shut up! I'm sure your father wouldn't hesitate to disown you once he learns of what you did," she shot back through clenched teeth.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," I said in a sarcastic nonchalant tone. "After all, he never really saw me as his blood."
My vision blurred with hot tears, but I refused to let them fall. I remembered everything, years back, I had overheard their conversations as a child, learning I wasn't really my father's daughter. I was my mother's only child from a man she despised, and somehow, that hatred had been transferred onto me.
It was then that it all made sense to me. Why my sister was the only one showered with love and attention while I was just treated as an object to be married to the future alpha. Why I was given a separate quarter away from them, even though I was their daughter.
I inhaled sharply, forcing my emotions into a cold, hard edge. "Also, I know you chose me over my sister to become Luna not because you love me… but because she's still underage."
Her lips parted slightly, a flicker of something like shock, or was it irritation?...passing through her eyes.
Her face twisted with fury. "You should be grateful I even gave you that chance."
I let out a small laugh. "Grateful? For being used as a replacement? You're saying it like you've never always made it obvious of how much you despise me."
A maid approached cautiously, holding a small bag that contained my belongings.
"Give it to her," my mother ordered coldly. "And make sure she leaves immediately."
I took the bag without a word and slung it over my shoulder.
"So this is it," I said calmly. "You're throwing me out like trash."
"You became trash the moment you rejected Kain," she snapped.
I stepped closer, meeting her eyes. "No. I became trash the moment you decided I was never worth protecting."
Her hand lifted, as it to slap me again, but i didn't flinch.
"Go on, hit me." I taunted. "It's what you love doing the most right?"
Maybe it was what I said, but slowly... she retracted her hand. "Just get out,I don't want to set eyes on you again."
I turned away before she could do anything else.
This was exactly how it had happened in my past life, although things were a bit different now. I hadn't been degraded to an omega like before, I still had my wolf.
As I walked out, I bumped into Vivian at the door step. My little sister. She was nothing like my parents, she was the only person in this family who treated me like a human, or so I thought.
"Sister, what's wrong? Where are you going?" Her panicked voice called as she quickly rushed to my side upon noticing my red cheek and the bag I carried with me.
"Vivian, just leave me alone. No need to pretend." I replied coldly. And suddenly, the innocent worried smile on her face transformed into a cold knowing smirk.
"Well well, you finally realized huh..." She whispered, her small eyes locked on mine.
In my past life,I had trusted her the most, I had believed she loved and cared for me, as a sister. Until I found out she had been the one who ordered a maid to pour boiling water on my face, to ruin my looks. She, this 15 year old, was a devil in human form.
"Have fun in the servants quarters sis, I'm sure you'll contribute more to the family...as a maid." She whispered, her tone dripping with mockery. And just like that, she pulled away, watching me as I walked out.
As soon as I stepped outside, the mate pull hit me again. Stronger and sharper. It wrapped around my chest like a chain, dragging my breath from my lungs.
I froze, and Carla stirred inside me. "He's near."
I swallowed. "Louis…"
