Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Dark Shadow

Arthur's army advanced slowly and steadily.

The wildlings were fiercer and wilder than Arthur had anticipated; fortunately, they had maintained their formation, otherwise, the casualties would have been immeasurable.

The shield-bearing veterans in the first row effectively fended off the weapons thrown by the wildlings and their fierce charges.

Meanwhile, the long spears thrust out from the shield wall continuously inflicted wounds on the charging wildlings.

This was also Arthur's consideration; he believed in placing veterans in the first row.

The further back, the more inexperienced soldiers were placed.

By learning from the Romans, the army's formation could become more stable.

This was completely contrary to the combat philosophy of Westeros, where in Westeros's wars,

the lords would place conscripts at the very front, using them to exhaust the enemy's energy.

This was also why half of the soldiers who first followed him were gone.

Arthur remained calm and composed; every day, he constantly hinted to himself that he needed the courage to face a collapsing mountain without changing his expression.

This psychological self-suggestion was very effective.

"Give the order, maintain formation, do not advance rashly, compress their space!" Arthur waved his hand at a guard beside him.

The further back the High Mountain Clan wildlings were pushed, the more they would find themselves gradually encircled, and their counterattacks would become fiercer.

Arthur had initially planned to leave an opening, surrounding them on three sides and leaving one open, to provide a retreat path so the wildlings wouldn't fight to the death.

After thinking it over, he decided against it; he would finish it in one decisive battle.

His own land was not far from the Bright Moon Mountains.

These wildlings now hated him so much; it was hard to guarantee that they wouldn't cause trouble for him once they recovered their strength.

As expected.

Arthur saw that

the situation below began to change; the wildlings did not have much of a numerical disadvantage compared to him.

Even if over a hundred people had escaped the battlefield in the initial chaos, there were still over two hundred people on the field now.

As the compression began, the wildlings started to lose space step by step, gradually being squeezed into one area.

The advance of the phalanx gradually stalled, and the wildlings' ferocity was completely ignited.

Led by Ti Meis son Ti Mei, those High Mountain Clan wildlings erupted with astonishing savagery!

"Kill! Kill!" The one-eyed fiend, Ti Meis son Ti Mei, wielded his longsword.

With one slash, he shattered the shield of one of his soldiers, felling both man and shield to the ground. "Follow me and kill!!"

The wildlings, following their war leader, charged his army formation recklessly.

They rammed their bodies into shields and furiously hacked with their weapons.

As time passed and their range of activity was further compressed, the resistance grew increasingly fierce.

Arthur suddenly began to doubt whether his decision not to leave the enemy a way out was correct.

But once he made a decision, he would never regret it!!

His army's formation was shaken multiple times, and some areas even developed gaps, but they were quickly filled.

Arthur saw Lucien, his farmer, relying entirely on brute strength.

He might not be able to defeat those renowned swordsmen of Westeros; Bronn would only need a few moves to deal with him.

But he was indeed a qualified vanguard warrior!

"Fill the gap!!!" Lucien roared, personally picking up a shield and sword to block the gap, and thrusting his sword through a wildling's body. "Follow me!!!"

He had advised Lucien many times, but he still always led from the front; he was strict with his soldiers but beloved.

Even the new recruits were more willing to follow him than Hakon, who was kind to his soldiers.

Blood splattered, and shouts of killing shook the heavens.

The soldiers of both sides were like a meat grinder; on one side was a steady army formation, and on the other, scattered barbarians.

They fought wildly in the firelight of the night.

The formation gradually became somewhat scattered, and the momentum of the advance was also curbed.

But as long as the wildlings could not break out, their complete annihilation was only a matter of time.

"Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo!" Warning horns resounded from the rear, shaking the sky. "Whoo——————!!!"

A sudden change occurred!!

Arthur quickly turned to look.

"Truly seeking death," Arthur murmured softly.

Towering flames rose there!

That was where Arthur had piled the spoils of war, and the soldiers' possessions were also stored there.

He had already guessed what had happened, but he truly hadn't expected the other side to dare to do such a thing!

The infamy of such an act was comparable only to the Red Wedding!

The soldiers looked in the direction of the sound, their morale in chaos, their formation breaking apart!!

A trace of mad ferocity flashed in Ti Meis son Ti Mei's eyes; he didn't know what had happened!

But ever since the horn sounded and the towering flames rose, these Plainsmen's army formation had fallen into great disarray.

Their vigor was greatly diminished!

This was an opportunity!!

"Kill! Kill! Kill! The Plainsmen can't hold on!!!" He let out a beast-like howl. "Clansmen! Slaughter the Plainsmen sheep!!!"

"Ti Meis son Ti Mei will personally crush Su—lei—man's head!!!"

The wildlings also saw the towering flames; they didn't know what had happened.

But they only knew that ever since those towering flames rose, the attack of the Plainsmen soldiers seemed to have been lost, and there was chaos!

Led by Ti Meis son Ti Mei, like beasts fighting to the death,

they launched their fiercest counterattack against the chaos in the Plainsmen army formation caused by the large fire in the rear.

There was a strong momentum to break through the army formations on both sides and drag the soldiers into a chaotic melee!

Only Lucien reacted quickly.

"Raise shields! Form ranks!" He slapped each stunned soldier, waking them up. "Raise your shields and form ranks for me!!!!"

His colossal roar was like the striking of a giant bell, instantly overpowering the clamor of the battlefield and startling his squad's soldiers awake.

Lucien led from the front, holding his longsword, and with one strike, he killed a wildling who had rushed forward in the chaos, blood splattering onto the soldiers' faces.

His figure was like a stabilizing force in the midst of chaos; his soldiers trusted him implicitly, and it showed its effect at this moment!

Those soldiers who had just been startled awake found their backbone.

Under Lucien's roar, the line of his phalanx began to rapidly reform at a visible speed.

"Hakon! Stabilize the right flank! Stabilize the right flank!" Lucien roared repeatedly at Hakon on the right flank.

But.

Hakon's army formation was already out of control, in complete chaos!

Hakon roared hoarsely again and again, but to no effect.

Ti Meis son Ti Mei noticed this situation, abandoned his charge against Lucien's reforming squad, and instead concentrated all his efforts on charging Hakon's chaotic squad.

The fierce assault further exacerbated the chaos on the right flank, which had already been broken by the High Mountain Clan wildlings.

Both sides plunged into a chaotic melee!

Engaged in a chaotic melee, Hakon's squad, with its morale shattered, was no match!

Ti Meis son Ti Mei stared intently at Arthur on the slope above; he intended to break through from the right side with his squad.

And charge directly at that sixteen-year-old Plainsman who had caused him such great humiliation!

To turn his head into a tribal urinal!!!

"Roar——————!!!"

A deafening roar, not human, certainly not an ordinary beast.

Filled with primal pressure, the fear embedded in human genes.

It suddenly exploded from the dark jungle on the right flank of the battlefield!

The sounds of fighting momentarily ceased.

Immediately after, a black figure.

Like a black phantom, it leaped out from the dense forest!

It stood upright there.

Arthur's courage to face a collapsing mountain without changing his expression vanished at this moment!

He widened his eyes.

"What in the world????!!!"
