Chapter 31 - Duel

The feral dragon's claw came down hard on the top of Storm's head, driving him face first into the ground.

Storm thrashed to try and get out from under his opponent's leg, but the feral had the weight of a small mountain and kept him pinned.

In desperation, Storm released a small amount of lightning through his scales to shock his opponent into releasing him.

The feral growled in pain and lifted his claw, but before Storm could get back to his feet, the feral grabbed him by the neck.

Ignoring the pain from the lightning shocking him, the feral lifted Storm into the air, then threw him back first into the mountain wall beside the cave entrance.

Storm laid on the ground momentarily stunned and the feral dragon roared out in victory.

From the perimeter of the village, the gnolls were cheering the two combatants on.

Storm slowly got to his feet, ignoring the pain coming from his back, as well as his massive headache.

"He's fast! Strong too! " Thought Storm.

The feral dragon lowered his head and Storm realized what he intended to do.

He jumped to the side as the feral rushed forward and ran full speed into the wall of stone behind him.

The Feral reeled from the impact but quickly recovered and snarled at Storm.

Storm jumped on the feral's back and used his increased size to force his opponent's head to the ground.

He bit down on the back of the feral's neck and began to discharge his lightning to hurt the dragon below him.

The feral thrashed, but Storm kept him pinned as the lightning started doing it's work by weakening his opponent.

In an impressive display of strength, the feral planted his legs underneath himself and stood up while still carrying a dismayed Storm on his back.

He rammed his back into the mountain wall, crushing Storm between the rock and his muscular back.

Storm lost his grip and fell to the ground.

Before he could fully recover, he felt something grab his tail and pull him away from the wall.

He tried to stop himself from being pulled by digging his claws onto the ground, but all he managed to do was dig deep groves into the ground as he kept getting pulled.

Storm felt a hard tug on his tail before the world began to spin.

After being spun around twice, the feral threw Storm back into the village center.

He crashed though one of the huts and the whole thing collapsed on top of him.

"I'll need to find a way to turn this around or I'm going to lose!!" Thought Storm.

Storm got back on his feet, dropping the rubble that had fallen on top of him to the ground.

He heard a rumble coming from the feral's midsection.

Both Storm and the Gnolls realized what he intended to do and jumped aside just in time to avoid the fireball that the feral spat from his mouth.

As it struck the pile of rubble Storm had dug himself out of, it exploded with enough force to blow the debris in every direction.

Knocking over several gnolls who were standing too close in the process.

"Damn it!! How am I supposed to match the physical strength of a dragon that has spent it's entire life fighting and beating rivals in single combat!?" Thought Storm.

Suddenly a memory returned to Storm.

He was a mere hatchling after the accident that gave him his abilities.

He remembered the feeling of his own body's lightning attacking his muscles.

He grew weak from the constant barrage, so weak that he even struggled to lift his own head.

Storm grinned as an plan formed in his head.

The feral hesitated when he saw Storm's grin.

"If I can't match his physical strength! Then I need to bring him down to my level!" Thought Storm.

He jumped straight into the air beating down hard with his wings to build up distance.

When his altitude was sufficient, he dove down at the feral with all the speed he could accumulate.

The feral dragon rose up on two legs and braced himself for the incoming attack.

As Storm collided with him, they both were forced back a few feet, until the feral dragon dug his back claws into the ground and stopped their backwards momentum.

The feral placed Storm in a headlock as he forced Storm's head underneath his right front limb.

This was the moment Storm had been waiting for.

His body was in full contact with his opponent.

He closed his eyes and pulled on every bit of electricity that was currently stored in his body.

The feral dragon shrieked in pain as the lightning did it's work. He tried to release his grip on Storm, but his muscles refused to let go.

After electrocuting him for 5 minutes straight, Storm felt the feral's grip on his neck weaken.

Storm broke free and fired a lightning bolt at point blank range at the feral's chest.

The feral dragon flew backwards before colliding with the mountain wall.

Storm watched him carefully as he laid on the ground stunned.

After a moment, the feral dragon slowly got back on his feet.

"Damn it!! He's still not down!!" Thought Storm.

The feral dragon's limbs were shaking with exertion as he fought off the paralyzing effects of Storm's lightning.

His posture had changed though, his aggression seemed to have temporarily abated, he seemed hesitant and less sure of himself.

And something else seemed to reflect on his face. Recognition? As if a long buried memory had begun to resurface.

Taking advantage of his opponent's distraction, Storm rushed at him and slammed him down on the ground back first.

He tried to push Storm off him, but Storm dug his claws into his chest and roared in his face.

He opened his maw and a glow started growing brighter at the back of his throat as he prepared to finish off the feral dragon with a lightning bolt down the throat.

"STORM!!!!! STOP!!!" Yelled Aurora.

The gnolls all took defensive stances as they prepared to attack if she choose to interrupt the duel.

"Aurora!! Get back!! Don't interfere!!" Yelled Storm.

"Storm, Look at him!! Don't you recognize him!? It's Dust'an!!"

"Dust'an?!"

"This can't be!!" Thought Storm

Storm looked down at the pinned dragon.

Old memories of his lost home returned to him.
