Chapter 1 - The National Goddess Comes Knocking

It was a scorching Summer day.

The construction site in Qing City.

Fu Shan was sweating profusely as he worked. A few of his fellow workers were slacking off and gossiping on the side. The topic of their discussion? The female celebrities of the entertainment industry, a favorite pastime.

"Have you heard? Yang Lili has a new drama coming out."

"I prefer Zhao Xiao. She's so beautiful!"

"Yeah, I think Zhao Xiao is beautiful too, and she's got a great figure!"

The workers were engaged in a heated discussion when suddenly someone said:

"I still like the National Goddess, Xu Yifei, the best. It's been a long time since I've seen her, and there hasn't been any news about her. I miss her."

The moment those words were uttered, they were met with snickers from the other workers.

"Pfft, Xu Yifei's already past her prime, alright?"

"The National Goddess Xu Yifei, she was good, sure. But she disappeared for three years. She's already irrelevant, you know?"

"Xu Yifei's finished. How can a washed-up actress compare to Zhao Xiao? Zhao Xiao's a top star! No comparison! Tsk."

Fu Shan, who had been working silently, suddenly exploded at that moment.

He raised the bricks he was carrying and hurled them towards the workers who were mocking the National Goddess, Xu Yifei, glaring at them.

"Who said Goddess Xu is finished? The actresses you're talking about aren't even worthy of carrying Goddess Xu's shoes!"

After saying that, Fu Shan glared at the few people again and turned to leave with large strides.

He left behind the few coworkers who were now frightened and staring at each other:

"What's wrong with Fu Shan? Why did he suddenly get angry?"

"Exactly! Isn't Fu Shan always the most good-tempered? What's going on today?"

"Even good people have their moments. A cornered rabbit will bite. No, wait, I'm saying, could Fu Shan be a hardcore fan of Xu Yifei? And, like, a die-hard, slightly brain-dead kind?"

The few coworkers looked at each other, feeling they had hit the nail on the head.

Otherwise, why would Fu Shan suddenly lose his temper? So, Fu Shan was a brain-dead fan of Xu Yifei? They wanted to go up and tease him a little, but they were afraid of Fu Shan's imposing manner.

After all, the angry Fu Shan just now was really scary.

Looking at the brick Fu Shan had angrily smashed at their feet, the workers collectively flinched, the image of Fu Shan's furious glare flashing through their minds.

Hiss—

Forget it.

They'd been too loose-lipped just now.

From now on, they wouldn't dare to utter a single word of disparagement against the national goddess – Xu Yifei – in front of Fu Shan.

After all, Fu Shan had been truly ferocious just now.

You don't mess with a hardcore fan!

At the same time, not far away, in a black business car, a beautiful, ethereal young woman, like a celestial being, was silently observing the scene in front of her.

She had witnessed the whole scene at the construction site just now.

Seeing this, the young woman couldn't help but smile, a satisfied and gratified expression on her face. She waved her hand at her assistant in the driver's seat.

"Xiao Yun, follow him!"

Saying this, she pointed towards Fu Shan, who was walking away in the distance, signaling her assistant to follow.

"Okay! Sister Yifei."

Assistant He Xiao Yun nodded quickly upon hearing this, then started the car and followed, keeping a distance behind Fu Shan.

After a quarrel with his coworkers, Fu Shan didn't feel like working anymore. He simply took half a day off and returned alone to his dilapidated, simple rented room. As soon as he closed the door and sat down on the old, chipped chair, certain memories flooded back like a tide.

He was born in a remote mountain village. His family was poor, and as the eldest son, he dropped out of middle school to work and support his family. Over the years, Fu Shan had drifted around, taking on all sorts of jobs, including being an extra at Hengdian World Studios.

He still remembered that three years ago, when he was an extra at Hengdian World Studios, he had the good fortune to see the national goddess—Xu Yifei.

To be precise, Fu Shan was a background actor on the set where Xu Yifei was the female lead.

At the time, Fu Shan was quite pleased.

Because through close observation, he discovered that Xu Yifei truly deserved the title of National Goddess; not only was she beautiful, but she also had a kind heart.

She was very friendly to them, the lowly background actors, and never put on airs.

This was really different from everyone else.

He was a poor nobody with no education, no family background, and no connections… absolutely nothing. Over the years, he had already tasted the disdain and contempt of others. Xu Yifei, the National Goddess, was the first person to make him feel gentle.

So, when he saw Xu Yifei being forcibly intoxicated and dragged towards the presidential suite of a hotel, Fu Shan, without regard for anything else, stepped forward and rescued Xu Yifei.

However, Fu Shan is still very unclear about what exactly happened afterwards.

He only knew that on that night, he seemed to have had a very beautiful and absurd dream.

In the dream, he and Xu Yifei...

Fu Shan, who had also gotten drunk that day, didn't know why he would have such a dream. He only knew that when he woke up, the sky was already bright. Xu Yifei was nowhere to be seen, and there was only him left in the room, along with a smear of red on the white sheets.

Not long after, the national goddess—Xu Yifei—suddenly disappeared from the public's view. This disappearance lasted for three years.

"That day three years ago... did it really happen, or... was it just a dream I had?"

As his thoughts returned, Fu Shan couldn't help but sigh softly.

And just then, the door of his rented room was suddenly knocked on:

"Bang, bang, bang—"

"Who is it?"

Fu Shan asked, but still instinctively got up and went to the door, opening the old, run-down door of the rental.

The next second, he was directly stunned.

"You... Xu... Xu Yifei?!"

At this moment, standing prettily at the door of his dilapidated rental, wasn't it the national goddess—Xu Yifei?

"Long time no see! How have you been these past few years?"

Xu Yifei—the beautiful young woman from the black business car just now—curled her lips, smiled at the dumbfounded Fu Shan, and lightly opened her red lips.

"Uh, I... you..."

Fu Shan heard that, and was about to scratch his head and say, isn't he still the same as always?

And, Fu Shan was also eager to ask about Xu Yifei's situation over the past few years.

Why did she suddenly disappear? Moreover, she disappeared for three years...

Fu Shan had many questions he wanted to ask, but before he could even open his mouth, he was interrupted by someone... or rather, a cute little girl: "Mommy, where's Daddy? I wanna see Daddy~"

From behind Xu Yifei, a soft, cute little ball of a girl in a pink princess dress suddenly popped out, toddling over to Xu Yifei with her little legs. She tilted her head up, waving her small, white hands, and said in a milky voice.
