100 P.S -1 Bonus chapter
"Oh, by the way, Aria, I'm planning to take Zorua out for a while. Do you want to come along?"
David had originally intended to continue training with Zorua, but after their battle with Aria, he reconsidered. Deino was undoubtedly the strongest opponent David had faced since becoming a Trainer. Although Zorua wasn't injured, it was clearly exhausted now. Pushing it to keep training would only strain the little Pokémon's body unnecessarily. He decided they both deserved a day off.
Now that he thought about it, for the past two weeks, David and the little fox had done nothing but battle and train relentlessly. Their only breaks were spent resting at home. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to take Zorua out for some proper relaxation.
"You two go ahead without me. Our summer special training camp isn't finished yet." Aria yawned, stretching her arms. "This break is only three days long, and to save time traveling back, I actually left last night. You two enjoy yourselves, but be careful out there, and make sure you're home for dinner."
"Oh, right—here, this is for you."
Still yawning, Aria casually pulled out a box and tossed it to him.
"There you go. Your reward for earlier."
"I originally prepared a gift assuming your starter Pokémon would be one of the offspring from our parents' main team, but I didn't expect you to have Zorua instead. The gift I prepared won't really work now, so take this instead. Alright, I'm going to get some sleep. See you later, David."
With that, Aria waved goodbye and headed into the villa, apparently planning to catch up on much-needed rest.
After Aria disappeared inside, David finally examined the box properly. Its exterior was crafted from some unknown metallic material, appearing completely seamless. On one side, he noticed a small line of text—Type Gems.
David opened it carefully. Eighteen gems of various colors lay nestled inside, each one gleaming with an enticing luster. They corresponded perfectly to the eighteen different Pokémon types.
David naturally understood what Type Gems were. Unlike Evolution Stones, which could only trigger evolution in specific Pokémon species, Type Gems were versatile and precious training resources.
Any Pokémon could absorb a Type Gem corresponding to one of its types. After absorbing the gem's energy, a Pokémon could enhance the potency of its own elemental energy. The fewer impurities the gem contained, the more effective the enhancement would be.
Therefore, the higher a gem's purity, the rarer and more valuable it became.
According to the label on the box, the Type Gems Aria had given him had a minimum purity of ninety percent, making them top-grade quality. If David remembered the market prices correctly, even the least expensive Type Gem with over ninety percent purity would cost hundreds of thousands of Pokédollars, with significant price variations depending on the type.
What an incredibly generous gift.
David weighed the box in his hand, mentally calculating. All the Type Gems inside combined were probably worth at least ten million Pokédollars, possibly more. His sister was truly good to him.
However, David didn't dwell on the monetary value. He simply placed the Type Gems carefully into his backpack. He understood that family kindness should be kept in one's heart and shown through actions, not constantly spoken about.
After securing the Type Gems, David suddenly remembered something. He brought up his system interface to check the notification he'd heard earlier.
[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, for defeating an Professional -level Trainer (provisional) in a one-versus-one battle. You have gained 500 system points and completed the hidden quest "Triumph Against the Odds," earning one special item draw opportunity.]
Five hundred system points!
One special item draw opportunity!
David couldn't help but feel excited. As expected, battling skilled Trainers made all the difference. Only challenging matches like these could bring such substantial rewards.
Previously, during the Novice Cup preliminaries, his ten consecutive victories had yielded almost nothing—a mere two hundred points total, with most of those coming from his final match against that overly dramatic teenager.
Yet this single battle with Aria had brought such amazing rewards. For a moment, David found himself wanting to challenge his sister a few more times.
Of course, he was only joking. The reason for such a large reward was undoubtedly due to Aria's status as an Professional -level Trainer. Looking at the word "provisional" after "Professional -level Trainer" in the system notification, David couldn't help but suspect he'd gotten somewhat lucky this time.
While he technically won, it was ultimately just a practice match. Aria hadn't used her full strength at all. Setting aside everything else, if she had activated her Dragon Force to boost Deino's abilities, David would have had an extremely difficult time achieving victory.
Deino was also a recently caught Pokémon that Aria hadn't fully trained yet, which gave him the opening he needed. If he wanted to battle her again for similar rewards, he would probably have to face her main team. Thinking about that possibility made David shiver slightly. Better not. He'd consider that option much later.
Can't let this go to my head, David reminded himself firmly.
He decided to use the special item draw opportunity right away. There was no point saving a single draw chance, and his luck seemed pretty good today. He'd test it out and see what happened.
[Ding~ Random special item is being drawn...]
A familiar purple light flashed across his vision.
Purple light? That's a good sign.
[Congratulations, Host, you have obtained a Collector's Grade special item — Abyssal Fishing Rod]
[Abyssal Fishing Rod: Collector's Grade extraordinary item. A top-tier fishing rod meticulously crafted over decades by an unknown sea captain. In his final moments before passing away, his last wish was that someone would one day use this fishing rod to fulfill his childhood dream — to catch a true deity of the sea.]
David's eyebrows rose as he read the system's description.
What an ambitious dream! Abyssal Fishing Rod? That name alone... This old captain's childhood dream was probably to fish up Kyogre, wasn't it? I'm afraid that's asking for the impossible.
David thought with an amused expression.
However, in another distant world, a certain young girl had already accomplished this incredible feat. Although she hadn't used this particular fishing rod, someone had technically fulfilled that wish. So you can rest in peace now, old captain.
He retrieved the fishing rod from his system storage.
The rod's main body was crafted from blue crystalline organic material and deep cobalt-blue metal. A silvery fishing line made of some unknown material was wrapped around it, gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight. Regardless of its actual effectiveness, its appearance alone was absolutely magnificent. As expected of a Collector's Grade treasure certified by the system.
David ran his fingers along the fishing rod appreciatively.
Beyond the primary materials, even the most subtle decorative elements—various exquisite pearls and gemstones adorning the rod—were probably worth a fortune on their own. This old captain must have been truly dedicated to his childhood dream to have invested so much effort into creating this fishing rod.
"Zorua, how about we go to the beach?" David suggested, looking at the fishing rod in his hand.
"Zorua~!" The little fox responded cheerfully. "As long as I'm with David, anywhere sounds fun!"
Hearing Zorua's enthusiastic response, David felt his heart warm. This was something no Trainer could ever refuse—the genuine affection and trust of their Pokémon partner.
"Alright, let's head out now! When we get to the beach, I'll catch some fish for you to eat!"
He asked one of the household staff for a fishing tackle bag. The fishing rod's appearance was simply too eye-catching, and to prevent any unwanted attention or accidents, it would be better to keep it concealed.
After completing all his preparations, David excitedly set off with the little fox.
Before leaving, he made sure to bring along the still-unhatched Riolu egg as well.
