Date: April 15, 2013 Location: Hercules Gym, Hyderabad. Time: 6:00 AM.
The Ranji season was over. Hyderabad hadn't qualified for the knockouts. While other players went on vacation or played local T20 leagues, Sai went underground.
He was 16 years and 11 months old. He had grown another inch. 5'8". But his frame was changing. The "batsman" physique (lean) was evolving.
The Transformation
Sai stood at the squat rack. Weight: 100 kg. Pahlevan (the gym owner) watched closely. "For bowling," Pahlevan shouted, "you don't need beach muscles. You need Glutes and Core. That is your engine."
Sai squatted. [SYSTEM STATUS] Posterior Chain: Engaged. Explosive Phase: Max.
He wasn't training for endurance anymore. He was training for Type-2 Fast Twitch Fibers. Explosive jumps. Box jumps. Medicine ball slams. He was rewiring his nervous system to fire instantly.
The Net Session: The Towel Drill
Date: May 20, 2013 Location: Gymkhana Nets (Empty).
Sai was alone. Just a bucket of old balls and a single stump. He had placed a white towel on the "Good Length" spot (6 meters from stumps).
Objective: Hit the towel. Condition: Maintain perfect biomechanics.
He wasn't trying to bowl fast yet. He was trying to bowl correctly. He had studied videos of Dale Steyn. Steyn had the perfect "skier" action. He pulled his non-bowling arm down hard (like pulling a chain) to catapult the bowling arm.
Rep 1: Sai ran in. He pulled his left arm down violently. [DISSONANCE - SHOULDER] He felt a pinch in his right shoulder. Error: Arm trailing behind body. Dragging the shoulder.
Rep 50: Sai adjusted. He "loaded" the ball closer to his head. He ran in. Left arm pull. Right arm whip. [CLICK] The timing was sweet. The ball hit the towel with a loud THUD.
The Speed Gun Test
Date: August 10, 2013 Event: HCA League Match (Deccan Blues vs. SBI).
This was the testing ground. Sai opened the bowling for his club. The batsman was a seasoned league pro.
Sai marked his run-up. It was longer now. More rhythmic. He ran in. He felt strong. His legs pumped the ground, generating force. He jumped. Braced Front Leg. His left leg planted like a concrete pillar. It didn't bend. The momentum slammed into his hip, traveled up his spine, and whipped his arm over.
[RESONANCE]
The ball flew out of his hand. Zip. It hurried the batsman. He was late on the defense. The ball hit the splice of the bat. Ouch. The batsman shook his hand.
Sai looked at the keeper. "That felt fast," the keeper said, eyes wide. "That was 130 plus, Sai."
130 kph. It wasn't express. But for a 17-year-old batting all-rounder, it was serious. But the System gave him a warning.
[SYSTEM ALERT] Stress Level: Lumbar Spine - High. Recovery Time Required: 24 Hours. Warning: Bone density adaptation in progress. Do not over-bowl.
He could bowl fast. But his bones were still hardening. He had to be careful. He wasn't a machine yet; he was a prototype.
